Where to level in Wotlk, Leveling on Cho’gall

Where to begin in WoTLK

First I would like to recommend an add-on called Carbonite. It’s a quest helper that will make your life 20 times easier if you’re someone like me who hates leveling. I prefer this over Quest Helper. The first thing about leveling if you haven’t started off yet is to really complete every quest in the first couple zones. I suggest going to Borean Tundra first as the quests give more Xp. Either way, the choice is yours and there are plenty of quests to push you through a couple of levels. From there you can head to Dragon’s Blight. For you lore lovers, If there is any quest chain to do on your way to 80 (that also ends up being quite a bit of xp at the end of the chain) make sure to do The Kor’kron Vanguard (read the comments to find out how to do the full quest line). Not only do you get an achievement but a very nice cutscene. That last link is a spoiler but shouldn’t be missed in case you never do or plan on doing the quest. At a minimum of 73 you can head from DB to Grizzly Hills and go from there.

Leveling on Cho’gall

Thanks to Nagayoshi for this other pic

"If it’s red it’s dead" is the guild motto and we’re having a lot of fun with that. Thanks to all the people I’ve killed and those who have 2 shotted me with your Thori’dal, the Stars’ Fury. If the 60 total Alliance on Cho’gall see any members of Incursus feel free to kill them. The first night here was pretty bad with over an hour que at one point to log on, but it has seemed to go down a bit. I’m sure it hasn’t hurt that they have also opened Free Realm Transfers off of Cho’gall,  which will be running up until Thursday, November 20 at 4:00PM PST.

Waiting in Line

I’m sure some, well probably a lot of you, went and stood in line at midnight to get your copy. Other than the fact that almost every Gamestop in America had to call in each and every credit card it was ok. There were about 75-100 people waiting when I got there but nothing too interesting. On the other hand, when you look like an elite assasin like Akrios people notice you!Post if you had anything funny/interesting happen while you were waiting in line.

UI

For people waiting for a fix on my ui, I can’t yet figure out how to fix the discord art. I’m not the original person who made it, and I’m no expert on it. That being said, the art seems to work other than some white boxes around the chat log that ruin it. I’ll try again when I have some time, and I started a thread on it on the discord forums. If anyone else figures it out, please let us know.

In the mean time, this is the ui I’m running with. Basically the same thing, except no discord art and some mods updated for 3.0. I also changed from moveit to moveanything, it’s the same general addon except this one works.

Download this here. Make sure you change the folder names in the wtf folder.

Other than that, the current patch is so disastrously laggy that I haven’t really been able to play other than bgs. I think it’s kind of stupid that blizzard released the patch before it could be applied to the game without making it unplayable. If you join an arena game too quickly, you have a good chance of getting the transfer aborted error. This would be ok if dueling was an option, but durotar, or anywhere with enough people, is too laggy to do anything. Battlegrounds seem to be working alright, but they are far from perfect. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon.

I’m liking this spec best of what I’ve tried, because this game feels like its about burst damage in 3.0. People die extremely quickly. I also found combat interesting but as I’ve said, I haven’t been able to seriously test anything in the lag.

A Guide to Gemming and Enchanting Gear for PvE at level 70

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

The following is a basic guide to both gemming and enchanting your gear for the highest possible PvE dps. A PvP gemming guide will follow shortly. Keep in mind that all epic gems are available on Sunwell Island at the cost of 15 badges of justice, from bosses in Hyjal, Black Temple, and Sunwell Plataeu, and from your local auction house for a few hundred gold.

Meta Gem

Relentless Earthstorm Diamond

+12 agility & 3% critical strike damage. Require 2 red gems, 2 blue gems, 2 yellow gems.

(Note – having an orange gem will count as having 1 yellow gem and 1 red gem. The same is true of purple and green gems.)

This is the best choice for any PvE situation. It provides the highest damage output. The meta that provides haste suffers from a hidden cooldown of 40 seconds and is inferior to this meta in every way.

Combat spec gem selection:

Red Sockets

rare: 4 agility / 4 hit – Glinting noble topaz

epic: 5 agility / 5 hit – Glinting Pyrestone

Yellow Sockets

rare: 8 hit - Rigid Dawnstone

epic: 10 hit – Rigid Lionseye

Blue Sockets

rare: 4 agility / 6 stamina – Shifting Nightseye

epic: 5 agility / 7 stamina – Shifting Shadowsong Amethyst

Mutilate gem selection:

Red Sockets

rare: 8 agility – Delicate Living Ruby

epic: 10 agility – Delicate Crimson Spinel

Yellow Sockets

rare: 4 agility / 4 hit – Glinting noble topaz

epic: 5 agility / 5 hit – Glinting Pyrestone

Blue Sockets

A Guide to Rogue Races – PvE and PvP

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

One of the most common questions I’m asked is "What is the best race for a Rogue?" The answer to this is that it depends on what you intend to do in WoW – as in, what aspects of the game you intend to focus on. Before moving on I want to note that in the end there is no wrong decision; if you’re playing for fun, choose the race you will be happy with.

Alliance

Human

Starting Stats: Strength 21- Agility 23 – Stamina 21 – Intelligence 20 – Spirit 21

Notable Racials:

Perception Activate to dramatically increase Stealth detection – Lasts 20 sec – 3 min cooldown

Easily one of the strongest racials available to a Rogue. Essentially a counter to other Rogues in arena, allowing for an opener on an opposing Rogue, which can be devastating and really set the tone for the game. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly, this negates a Druid’s ability to hide in stealth at the beginning of a match. An opener on a Druid in cat form can put pressure early on in the fight. That being said, there are counters to this, such as opposing Rogues Vanishing in Stealth or waiting for the buff to expire. There is also AoE, Paranoia, and opposing Perceptions that will cause a Human Rogue to play conservatively – which means not using Perception to its full potential for fear of being destealthed in a bad position. Regardless, even when countered in these ways Perception forces the use of a cooldown and causes the other team to work around it.

Sword SpecializationExpertise with Swords and Two-Handed Swords increased by 5.

Mace SpecializationExpertise with Maces and Two-Handed Maces increased by 5.

These are great talents to have for both PvE and PvP.

Expertise is an attribute introduced in patch 2.3.0. One point of Expertise decreases the chance that melee attacks made by the player will be Dodged or Parried by 0.25%. Which means you are essentially gaining 1.25 % reduced Dodge and Parry. This racial really shines in PvE as Expertise is the strongest statistic for Alliance raiding Rogues, due to the fact that mobs have an innate chance to Dodge from behind.

Expertise Cap Values:

0/2 Weapon Expertise, non-Human: 103
1/2 Weapon Expertise, non-Human: 83
2/2 Weapon Expertise, non-Human: 64
0/2 Weapon Expertise, Human (wielding swords or maces): 83
1/2 Weapon Expertise, Human: 64
2/2 Weapon Expertise, Human: 44

Diplomacy - 10% bonus to faction point gain

Fairly self explanatory. No matter what point you are at as a character, this is nice to have. Whether it would be increasing reputation with Aldor and Scryer, or trying to acquire the exalted Hyjal ring as well as the Ashtongue trinket.

Other Racials:

The Human SpiritIncrease Spirit by 10%

Summary: Human is one of the strongest races available for Rogues. Perception allows you to have an advantage against other Rogues and Druids, which when you consider the number of teams currently using these classes in arena, the strength of this racial becomes quite obvious. Outside of arena, a Human Rogue has an advantage against other Rogues in landing the all important opener. Weapon Expertise is a bonus for PvP, and makes Humans one of the strongest PvE Rogue races. Diplomacy is really just the icing on the cake, unless you enjoy rep grinds.

Gnome

Starting Stats: Strength 16 – Agility 26 – Stamina 20 – Intelligence 24 – Spirit 20

Notable Racials:

Escape Artist - Activate to break out of a Root or Snare effect – Instant – 1 min, 45 sec. cooldown

A really strong PvP racial. A Rogue is required to remain on a target to be effective (one of the biggest reasons Shadowstep is so strong). Free root breaks in duels and arena really set Gnomes apart as the most mobile of the Rogue races. Add in the fact that this ability sits on a cooldown of less than two minutes, meaning that (more…)
