Tip Against Mages, Last Arena Video Comming Soon

Monday, March 9th, 2009

I’ve been having a pretty busy couple of weeks both in life and in game. My guild has started working on 3d Sartharion and the encounter itself is easily the biggest challenge of the expansion thus far. At the same time, WOTLK is giving me a taste of the work involved in being a GM. It’s a rewarding role, but at the same time it feels like a constant battle to contain constantly swelling drama and maintain some order. Add to that task trying to do arena on live, work on videos, get a team put together for Tournament Realm, throw in some mid term exams and a bit of social r & r IRL, and this all equates to me having less time to write articles. But that’s more than enough crying for today.

Tournament Realm is up, and while I haven’t spent a ton of time there, it’s already a fun chance to  play with and against some great players I wouldn’t get a chance to see otherwise. I played some RMP with Milkofamnisia and Neurological, although only briefly. RMP still feels strong, even amid the faceroll of hunters, death knights and paladins that comprise the majority of teams on TR.  RMP isn’t what it was in the past, but it at least has a chance to beat the majority of popular comps. It has the versatility that most rogue teams lack. I even got a chance to run some triple rogue with Mahiko and Buddhist, which was a lot of fun.

Oh and if you missed the ESL finals, you should check out this clutch performance by Orangemarmalade of HON.

Full Download

I recorded most of these clips a few weeks ago. We haven’t had time to play much since then other than a few days this week, which luckily gave me a chance to finish up the video before the coming content patch. This is a compilation of 3.08 Arena as well as a few duels.

The arena footage consists of more mut rogue / frost mage content against some of the best players in the Rampage battlegroup.

I have one 3v3 clip in here but its mostly 2v2, as that’s the only bracket I’ve really focused on this season thus far. The clips were recorded between 2300-2470, and at one point we were the highest rogue/mage in the world.

Mage Rogue / Rogue Arena Strategy – I posted an article a little while ago about this, so if you’d like you can check it out here.

There are a few duels in here as well, mostly against (more…)

New Arena System 3.0.8

ratingchange

For those of you wondering, yes the arena point system has been fixed  since arena’s went back up, and I couldn’t be happier with the new system.

Right now a lot of the theorycrafting sites are trying to figure out all of the variables that go into the new rating systems, and I wouldn’t doubt that all these factors they mention do actually go into it, such as:

-Team’s Gear Level taken into account in results of what team you face. (more…)

Will Rogue Damage be nerfed too far? Blizzard Cryptic on the Arena Change

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Blizzard has commented on the state of damage in PvP:

Burst damage in PvP

We think PvP is too bursty. What we haven’t announced is what we are going to do about it. Risks of making ill-conceived changes include just shutting out classes or specs without a lot of CC potential, or perhaps having long stalemate-ish fights where nobody ever dies. But that doesn’t mean we won’t do anything.

We are also still discussing whether this is a problem only with certain classes (rogue, mage, paladin, DK and possibly Feral get mentioned the most) or whether damage is just too high in general.

Resilience will still make a difference. When you talk to players sitting at say 500 resilience they can notice a difference and by 800 or 900 they feel like they can stay alive (caveat: this is a very generalized statement and obviously isn’t going to apply to every player or every situation).

What does this mean for rogues?

I’ll agree that damage is far too strong at the moment. That being said, a direct nerf to the damage of our class could easily go (more…)
