Hey there, a brief introduction as to who I am. I’m Seezy, a 19 year old Australian rogue. I play on one of the strongest “Australian” realms on Vengeance, Jubie’Thos.
So here we are, on the horizon of Cataclysm, in arguably the most “balanced” arena seasons of the expansion. So let’s get down to business, first I would like to take you all back to the beginning of Wotlk. Remember the days of T.N.T stun? Hunter’s were quite literally untouchable unless they suffered from a serious disability.

Then there’s my personal favorite Death and Decay. Along with its aoe fear/stun effect “Cowering in fear” I would like to dedicate my now serene and calm nature to that very ability, I believe I have used up any, and all emotion during the short period of time it was in the game.
In all seriousness though, and from my own experience with Priest/Rogue, these were the darkest days of my time playing WoW, it really is astonishing how much has changed. From my Priest playing a Holy/Disc hybrid spec right down to Spirit of Redemption to try and keep me alive after the opposing team’s DK had been killed, then resurrected in Ghoul Form, Starfall’s ridiculous range and not distinguishing between stealthed and un-stealthed targets, the list really does go on. Hello everyone, this is Separation from Bleeding Hollow. I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself to the RogueRogue community! I picked up the game a few weeks after the burning crusade was released and chose my first class, the rogue. After being in countless raids/groups I knew I was going to be playing my rogue much more than any other class. From Karazhan to the Sunwell Plateau, I have killed every boss BC had to offer and now that Wrath of the Lich King has been introduced, there are many new encounters as well as the end game content being released. WOLTK has also brought many new players to the game, which is a good thing! A large selection of them have chosen the rogue class. Maybe its the high single target damage they can output in a raid environment, or maybe its the fact that people enjoy stealthing around in Warsong Gulch. Whichever it is, it opens up a whole new experience of how you play the game, this can also include questions, wanting advice or just to talk to someone who enjoys the class just as much as you do. That’s where I come into play, I am going to be introducing my RogueRogue Icecrown Citadel guide made exclusively for rogues!
I am very excited to be here, and look forward to sharing my information and experience with you that has helped me along the way to become a successful raiding rogue. If you have any questions or concerns about anything you read in my guide feel free to ask. Thank you for reading!
Introduction
Hey everybody welcome to the RogueRogue.com guide to Icecrown Citadel raid guide. I’m Separation and I am going to be going to be explaining the Lord Marrowgar encounter which is the first boss of Icecrown Citadel. I will be going over positioning, optimal spec, glyphs and overall what you need to know to stay alive as a rogue during the fight. First of all, there are 2 ICC specs that rogues should choose from which are 51/18/2 (Mutilate) and 20/51/0 (Combat). Depending on each encounter in my guide, I will give you the optimal spec you should be using that yields the best result for that fight. Lets talk about glyphs now, for combat the 3 major ones are Glyph of sinister strike, killing spree, and tricks of the trade. For Mutilate your glyphs should be glyph of mutilate, hunger for blood, and tricks of the trade. You will notice both specs glyph tricks of the trade simply because of the 2 piece benefit you get 15 energy back and you are also enraging your target for 4 seconds longer, that of which should be another rogue.
Spec/Poisons
The spec that fits this encounter the most efficiently is the combat spec that I have mentioned above. You do a lot of running around during this and you are going to be target switching more than a few times. As you know combat has extremely high burst potential and cooldowns so you can quickly and successfully take down the target at hand. For poisons, you are going to want to be using Instant on your main hand and deadly on the offhand.

Positioning for Abilities
As you can see in the picture above, you really dont get to look at the boss for alot of the fight, you are starting at his…well imaginary feet and red hit box. As a rogue and along with other melee classes the most efficient place to stand is directly in back of the boss because he does a frontal cleave which hits the three tanks you are using for the fight. One of the bosses abilities that he casts somewhat quickly into the encounter is Coldflame. You can refer to the picture for this it is the blue fire he casts onto the ground in a 8 yard line towards a certain direction. All you have to do is use your Q or E key to quickly strafe out of this as its not exactly life threatening but does tick for 6,000 so be careful that you do not tunnel vision on this boss. The second thing you need to watch out for is Bone Spike Graveyard. This ability impales multiple targets and makes them unable cast/move as long as they are stuck in the spike. This is where being combat comes into play because typically melee get spiked during this fight and thats a great time to use a targeting macro, /tar Bone Spike /startattack /cast sinister strike, this is also the opportune time to hit your blade flurry/killing spree since it spreads the damage out and cleaves each of the spikes while still hitting the boss. So first I want to thank all the people that have already submitted articles / apps. Really, I realize now that this is something I should have done a long time ago. There are lots of great opinions out there and people interested in sharing their thoughts about the game and class. If I haven’t responded, don’t feel bad because I’ve gotten a lot of submissions, and there’s also a chance I haven’t gotten to it yet. If you’re interested in blogging, there is no deadline and I still may be looking for more! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here are the details I posted about a week ago.
I’m going to open up roguerogue.com to some potential community involvement. If you’re interested, email me at feedback@roguerogue.com with an article or any questions you have. I’ll potentially be looking for some permanent authors, especially going forward into Cataclysm, so if you’re interested, give it a try! No promises though, and please at least have a fair understanding of the class; not to discourage people but I’m not going to post stuff just for the sake of posting.
The good news is I’ve already found some people who want to share their thoughts and over the next few days you’ll start seeing their posts here, so be friendly and check it out! Hopefully this will make roguerogue.com a much more active place and give the rogue community a lot of new advice and opinions! I’ll still be posting here as well, and I know bizzlesnaff is going to start posting information as well. Stay tuned!
Also, the last piece of good news is that I’ve finished recording for Arenas Volume VII. I’m in final exam mode until the 20th, but I have the 20th-25th off so I’ll be finishing the video up then and hopefully releasing around that time period. Bizzlesnaff’s first User Submission Video will also be out before the end of april, and I know he has more to come.

So in the past week or so two top rogues have released some arena videos, featuring some shadow step action.
Reckful 1

Woundman 1

So as I said, both of these videos show some shadow dance play. Both of them are also vary raw, with little to (in the case of woundman’s video) no editing. However, for those of us who don’t necessarily need the flash to enjoy a PvP video and can check things out simply for the game play, what can we take from these vids?
First, I’ll note that the general gameplay is strong. Both of these videos will give you a good perspective of consistent and standard top level shadow dance play. Reckful’s video was a bit more polished and had more 3s action. You get to see a lot of RLS as well as some RMP. Watching these games shows just how essential having an amazing caster dps teammate is in 3v3. You can really see the difference players like snutz or pookz make; they are the crux of a lot of the swaps. By the time reckful is shadowstep switching and dancing a lot of the times these target players are already placed in the perfect position and under pressure by the lock or mage respectively. This video also shows that although dance can be powerful, it’s still a spec that requires a lot of coordination and exceptional teammates to excel.
One notable maneuver in woundman’s video is his frequent use of shadowstep kick. This is nothing new to a lot of BC rogues as this was used frequently in the glory days of hemo/shadowstep, but since dance hasn’t been utilized until recently its nice to see again. Woundman shows how this tactic can be used reliably, and its something that a lot of healers don’t expect. It was also interesting for me to see some alternative Spriest/rogue strats, the comp seems to play a lot more fast paced as dance and hinge on early pressure.
Both videos are worth checking out for those of you looking to play more dance.
On a side note, I’ve already recieved some submissions regarding people interested in posting on the site and getting involved. I’ll be posting some soon and I’m in the preliminary phase of looking for people to help out here, so if you’re interested check out the post below for more information!
