Let me preface this by apologizing for not posting sooner. I’m also sorry if the following isn’t something you’re interested in, but it’s just my personal thoughts and feelings summing up my experiences revolving around the game. Some of this is from an article I drafted but never posted a few months ago. I haven’t been posting any of the comments that you might find in some of the articles under my name.
What am I doing now?
So as most of you have probably assumed, I’m essentially finished with the game, and have been for a while now. I never “quit”, which I always found ridiculous for people to say. Quitting makes it sound like an addiction. I played because I enjoyed playing, and I gradually lost interest. Since about last summer, I began playing more and more casually until I simply didn’t log on at all.
There’s a lot of reasons for this. Personally, I’m kind of moving on in life from wanting to sink a lot of time into gaming, my interests have just gradually changed. The game itself has also changed and become undeniably worse than it was in the past, both from a raw gameplay and game experience standpoint and from a community standpoint (I’ll detail my thoughts on this below).
The Decline of the WoW Community and its Understanding of PvP
When I refer to this, I’m not just talking about numbers, but about attitude. Maybe I personally changed, but over the course of this expansion I felt I witnessed a really decaying community that both didn’t understand what used to make this game good, and didn’t really help make the game more fun. What really made the game for me was the people I interacted with, and this had become abysmal.
One of the things that made me realize how much the pvp community specifically had changed was the reception I saw when Drakedog 9 was released.
Here’s my take on that video. The editing was incredible, first and foremost, from Vurtne. You can tell a lot of time and effort went into it and it shows. The video looks and feels beautiful, even if you forget the PvP content itself. It flows extremely well. It’s not the best editing I’ve ever seen but it’s comparable to the highest caliber of PvP video editing.
The content itself is world PvP. Having made a world PvP video in this expansion, I know how tremendously hard it is to find content, but Drakedog did, and having managed to do so is really a testament to him wanting to make the best product. Arena clips are vastly easier to procure, with some effort a solid arena video can be finished in a month; a mediocre one in a week; an unedited one in a few days. The content itself was solid, exciting 1vn that demonstrates control.
What was the reaction of most? People hating on world PvP. Really? What the fuck? You may say that this is just one video and you can’t base your views of the whole community on just one example, but what this critique leads me to is a deeper understanding that a large percentage of WoW’s current player base has no fucking idea what this game was and why it was so good. That epic PvP encounter in the roaming world, a random battle behind some mystifying scenery that will only happen once, where the only reward is pride. World PvP is WoW as a game, as a memorable experience. And THIS was one of people’s biggest complaints about the video. Players who have no idea what world PvP, is who would prefer a scripted arena match that can be decided before the gates open. I love(d) arena but it can NEVER be seen in the same light as world PvP to me. It’s just not the same experience and 99 percent of the time doesn’t even come close.
Things used to be much different. I felt like I was gearing my character and spending the time and practicing to become better so that I could kick ass when that moment came, whether in dueling or in world PvP or even in Arena.
But at this point in WoW? People blindly accept that arena is synonamous with PvP and Skill, and they are happy to sit idling in Dalaran until their partners log on, and are willing to call this a game. You can blame Blizzard all you want for ruining wow, but the community let it happen and gradually accepted it, and what hope is there for the game to improve when the community doesn’t even know what the problem is.
A lot of players who never played before WOTLK have no understanding of this game or its potential depth. They are told that 3v3 arena is all that matters in understanding skill and they follow this idea pretty blindly.
This all leads me down another path of thought. People talking about skill who have no fucking idea what skill is or what they are talking about.
This isn’t really a new trend but it’s one that has expanded greatly. You have this entire segment of the player base that only see this game through arena and arena ratings and gear scores. A lot of these players are elitists, and they don’t even know why. A big reason is that they emulate what they see from peers I suppose. These are the players that base skill entirely on meaningless arena rating. Not on reaction time, timing, control, movement, consistency, coordination, but arena rating.
So here’s a quick explanation of top level arena in WoW and how it relates to skill, because I think a lot of people don’t understand this. Skill is not the major factor in success in WoW arena. It may have been in BC, or even earlier in WOTLK, but as the expansion has progressed, what determines your success in arena is moreso the following factors:
What Comp Do you Play? What class do you play? What Spec do you Play?
Since the inception of arena, this has always been true to a certain degree, but in the past (TBC) skilled players could overcome the fact they were playing a weaker comp or spec or even class in arena. Today? Look at the trends of beast cleave or wizard cleaves. Want to succeed as a rogue? Make an RLS. I played RLS early this season for less than a week and barely knowing the comp got 2750+ mmr with cirranis who clicks out of his spellbook and shoewhistle, an alt warlock. I exaggerate because they are both competent players, but the key is certainly the comp. I’m fairly certain I could play with any competent RLS and succeed at the moment. I think any two decent healers and a warrior can achieve ratings for the same reasons that DK/Pally dominated 2s early in the expansion.
Is skill a factor? Yes, but what’s much more important than that is the people you play with and the classes you play with. Which brings me to my next point in this rant.
The Other Big Factor in Success in Arena is Who you Know in WoW and Who you Play with
You know what’s more important than skill in this game? Playing with the most well connected players and socially networking with them. When I was looking around to get sponsored in the past, I got a first hand look at what it took. Step one is be friends with other people who are sponsored. If you are not, you will almost certainly not succeed. That’s it. If you aren’t good friends with the handful of sponsored players, don’t expect to do anything unless you can qualify for that once a year tournament realm, and can find the right comp and committed players for it which can be almost impossible.
Look at the example of EG tryouts last year. Myself, perplexity, scythe, and litreacola were all passed up in recruitment in favor of a rogue named smatin. Not even speaking for myself, but smatin was a pile of shit compared to any of the other rogues I mentioned, but since he was friends with tenderloin (eg’s shaman at the time to replace kollectiv), he was selected.
That’s just a single example, but I’m sure many players trying to break into top pvp can attest that who you know is much more important than how well you play. You can argue that WoW is an MMO and social aspects are part of this, but I still think that skill should be the most important factor in your success in arena. Unforunately, it is far from it. This is one of the big reasons I no longer care about WoW, because I don’t want to spend time wandering around guilds and ventrilos trying to find a good resto shaman just to succeed.
Some Final Thoughts
Now don’t let the above rant fool you, most of that was written in frustration a few months ago. The game obviously wasn’t all bad. As lame as this may sound, I learned a lot about people and life and had countless amounts of fun playing on and off over the years. At its best WoW was an engrossing experience and I feel like it had a lot to offer.
I probably had the most fun in this game making videos, it was a unique experience and it let me be creative. I made them because I enjoyed making them, BUT I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR THEIR SUPPORT! I’ve had a ton of support both with videos and this site over the years, and I hope that I’ve been of some help and offered you some entertainment along the way.
Although I’ve always tried to keep my personal life separate from gaming, I will mention that things are going really well for me. I never felt that WoW stopped me from having a social life and that this was just a myth because so many gamers are social disasters, but it was a time investment and it did affect my lifestyle. Since I moved away from playing over this past year I’ve been going to the gym 4-5 times a week, done better in academics, smoked a lot less weed (although you might argue this isn’t a good thing), and I’ve gone from meaningless one nighters to more meaningful things. On the off chance you care, life is good.
So thanks for the support along the way, and helping to make my personal experience with the game more than it would have been. I don’t know what I’ll be doing next in terms of gaming, or if I’ll ever come back, I may continue to update the site intermittently regardless.
Thank you and good luck.

Hey Akrios. Man its sad to see you leave the game. I visited this site when a friend mentioned it to me and I’ve never stop popping in every couple of days to see what you thought about this and that which were rogue-based. I’ve watched all your vids and even though this is my first time posting, know that I’m a long-time fan of your work. My rogue buddies consider you a giant in both your knowledge and skill in pvp. Its depressing to know that so many people think that world pvp isn’t what takes skill. Its more important for a rogue than almost any other class because you’re not prepared with your most important base skill: stealth. Some might argue that and I’d be willing to listen hehe. But yeah man the people who act elitest because they run a comp that almost always wins the day are the kids who started playing when WoTLK came out most likely. Once more, sorry to see you go and many good wishes to you and your future projects and endeavors!

Good luck with whatever you choose to pursue. This site was invaluable when I started seriously working on my rogue and looked for a resource. Your videos have also been quite excellent.
As disappointing as it is, I cannot help but agree with your rant.I am having more fun playing with some friends and doing nothing but world pvp than I am doing arenas or raiding.

You walked down the path that me and a lot of my friends walked down – although you had different reasons why you left, it boils down to the same thing (at a high level) basically the people that wow now attracts and the gaming direction its taking that crowd.
Before you left i hope you noted how much time you put into this game – I hope you’ll make it up doing real things and interacting with people in real life (not plugged into the grid).
All the best -

Glad to finally see your “goodbye” post. I had a lot of fun watching your videos…I learned some neat tricks about the rogue class. Sadly tho, it seems most of us are already going through the same changes you are.
Hope you have a blast in RL, nice playing with you (the very few times).

It’s so sad, that’s even a best rogue and a good man are quiting wow. No one’s movies never will compare with the eviscerate or arena vol. There two rogues that were really entertaining to watch Akrios and Unmercey. Akrios showed to us skill and I don’t know who gonna replace him, i guess rogues skill will be more disgusting. Thanks that you showed us how to play, you entertain us, and I hope this just a joke, and one day I will type on a web address bar: roguerogue.com and will see “Have you missed me guys? Ha, I’m back”. Thanks, see ya :’(
Comment by Nooki — July 25, 2010 @ 8:19 pm
Akrios, out of all the rogues I have followed over the past few years, I respect you the most. I have always enjoyed your videos and your style of play but also just the general feel of the videos (music, scenery, the world pvp, awesome duels etc). Honestly back in TBC i was playing a warrior and I used to visit roguerogue all the time because I was always interested in making a rogue. Eventually I did and my rogue became my main.
I know what you mean about finding the right partners to play with in arena. I didn’t start to arena until Wrath and I never got far but I felt I was a decent enough rogue. BGs and World PVP always felt more natural to me and the World PVP experience in vanilla on my warrior was fantastic. I’ve yet to see that happen since then. It really is too bad, I think WoW would have been a much better game if the focus wasn’t on arenas and more on enhancing world pvp and BGs.
I hope you enjoy life and you can look back proudly on what you’ve accomplished in this game. You’ve inspired many people, including myself, to do great things.

As someone who has come all the way through pre bc, bc, wotlk on this class, like akrios, I agree with him completely. I stopped playing because it just bored me about a year ago, I decided to come back 3 months ago on a friends rogue that he hadn’t played since start of wrath. I played RMP and it was just terrible, I got it to 2184 with the two players. But I had been networking since starting back up, and was able to switch to an RLS and knock out 2.6k MMR with ease and I realised how boring it was and what the game is. He is completely correct on his judgements of the game.
I hope you continue to do well Akrios. Your videos always did, and still do provide amusement for me when I am bored and nothing to do. Thank you for all you have done for the Rogue community of WoW.

Akrios, the things you say about WOW-PVP are the things I feel about it. Today only arena-rating and purple-farming. Epics but no feeling what a epic fight means, what epic battle in font of epic sceneries feels like. I will miss YOU!
And I think a lot of the old-school-rohues will miss you too.
So, now I wish you good luck and all the best to you, your friends and your family!

Time to get laid and make babies!!!! I quit several months ago, probably about the same time you did, because of the same reasons. Logging on everyday and just sitting there in town, reading the TC spam and jumping around the auction house…. The game just gradually got less and less appealing. The purple farming was a nightmare… go go go.. then wait for patch and go go go some more… how mundane. Interestingly enough, I went through a RL kick and practically never came home. Now I’m back to gamming… playing Modern Warefare 2.. although I don’t play as much as WoW – I was deffinitely addicted to that game.
Farewell and good luck!! Ya know, I don’t think I can remember talking to a rogue on my server who hadn’t heard of you or roguerogue.com

I cudn’t have said all that arena things better myself. I totally agree, imo arena has ruined this game so bad. You see all these holy paladins and hunters running around in full wrathful and say that you’re a scrub if your under 2600. I mean, try to get more carried by class/spec/comp.
I also wanna thank you alot for this website and all your movies. They have helped ALOT bot in entertainment purpose and learning purpose. Man, I agree with ya, and its exactly why I quit, the people who say ratings = Skill have some massive brain Dawgs, Its not about the numbers its about how good you are during the match, fuck.. you could even get to 2.2k by getting carried or sometimes 2.4k if the “Glad” is playing your character. The sign of a good/experienced player is in the arena.
On a side note, I loved World PvP it was like your own version of Lonewolf and the Cub/western fights. Regardless…

I stopped playing the game about 2 months ago, because arena doesn’t appeal to me any more in the least, and that is what WoW has been reduced to.
A new expansion is on its way, but I will not check it out, because it will be another waste of time and money.
The game will never again be as good as it was in 2005/2006.
Also, I never understood why everybody likes arena movies.
I can’t even sit through 5min of an arena movie without falling asleep, but I can watch old vanilla world PvP movies over and over.
Thanks for ten VERY enjoyable movies Akrios, and good luck in life.

Although helping create SSS and Evis X was certainly rewarding from an editing stand point, I think the most enjoyable aspect from either was a chance to meet some very unique individuals.
Some people were a little more….peculiar than others (you know…) – but I honestly can say that I enjoyed the time spent working with you. It was nice to know someone “up” the PvP food chain who was a human being, and so easily relatable. I’ll keep the sentiments short in here, but:
1. Make sure to stay in touch.
2. Don’t become a d-bag.
3. Keep that Dolemite poster safe.

Akrios , a lot of rogues will be thankful , just do what you think is right. JUST ENJOY YOUR LIFE!, what you did was beautiful for wow community and noone should complain. There will be time for everyone of us to leave this sh**t
I also miss BC times, now its not that balanced anymore, more effects, and you got more stuff.. but overall pvp suck. Ex. plates with 30% more hp than other dps do the same damage other classes do. Its not fair(killable but its harder for us than for them) , ill say again PLATES / MORE HP / SAME DMP / Lots of stuns(etc). Wheres Rogue ambush? killing from behind. Does any1 use ambush ? no. only mut/prep , why not its the best choice… Rogues are now boring to play..blizz made it all wrong, rogue pvp is is still interesting / not that bad if you compare it to other classes, but pve ? geez we got nothing.. using 2-3 skills over and over again. Nevermind though , I just want you to know that we understand you and fully support
Peace.
( this might be messed up but im sure you know what i mean )
p.s.
was drunk while writing it.

I have been contemplating my thoughts exactly on leaving WoW not simply cause of your above ranting, although it did inspire me; it is utterly stupid how WoW is as of now and I was the rebellious type till the end which is today. I refused to arena after I had deadly and I watched as all my friends went up the ladder asking me why I never tried. I desperatly tried to find world pvp always but never worked so I sat and dueled outside of org all day. It was the closest thing to the origional WoW I could remeber when hundreds were outside and dueling away; when rogues could kill anything, but the shaman was always top with the FROST SHOCK SPAM!
Back on topic to what I was saying before about the dueling, I did enjoy it, and battlegrounds were my favorites. I had the skills to win against wrathful geared players in deadly; people called me skilled yet it was a joke to see how bad they truly were without their OP gear. That’s when I started to think like you… The PvP skill factor is no longer in the majority of players but the gear they wear, and the arena ratings they have… My skills which you inspired me to get when I was first starting out never faded, simply cause of the fact I refused, no… I actually HATED the gear factor to all hell and continued with deadly. My ultimate goal was to surpass you someday and be a great rogue. With you gone and WoW not the same as it once was, leaves me heart broken at the reminiscing of my past WoW years. I will join you in this retreat and maybe I’ll come back, maybe I wont. HOWEVER MUCH I AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAY I WILL NEVER STOP SMOKING WEED.
Just some rebellious Rogue,

I have been a fan of this site for years, though I never posted. It will be a loss to the WOW community with you not playing. I would agree wholeheartedly about world PvP. It was the whole reason I left my old PvE server years back. I have been playing WOW sense the Blackwing lair patch and have noticed a slow decline it the quality in the players, and in their additudes. It is like hanging out with a group of adults and now having to deal with a group of middle school students.
But, I have to thank you for all that you have done on this website, you had great tips that where a great help in tweeking my PvP.

Its what goes on in the real world too bro. Kiss ass to get somewhere, its a harsh reality, but if life gives you lemons being just where you are even though you’re so good, its time to start questioning whether you were chasing the right thing after all? Happiness and success are not the same, in the game, outside the game. Hell, you yourself once said that the game is about socially bonding with people, maybe sometimes people you don’t even like. Anyways, best of luck with your real life, we all enjoyed seeing you as a rogue evolving over the years, we enjoyed your videos. Peace and Long live the assassin rogue. Mutilation!

But some got stuck…stagnant, wishing for old times.
World PvP was cool but things have changed and arena represents true trademark of PvP skill these days – mano-a-mano.

You’ve always been a great inspiration for me. I loved watching your videos with that awesome music and I loved reading blogs at this page reflecting things about our class. I also read it when I wasnt playing at all lol.
I think you are totally right about the PvP stuff u wrote. Having skipped most of TBC I was shocked how different PvP has become when I started playing again in WOTLK. Personally, I also refused to play superior comps just to be successful. I really don’t get why ppl are doing this, look at those guys playing doubleheal protpala just to get higher ratings, it’s ridiculous.
Let’s just hope that Cataclysm will change a lot of things for the better, hope you will be back then.

Over the past few years of you making videos and posting updates on this site, I’m glad that there was someone out there with the intelligence and creativity that you put into your videos, even if the majority of people don’t understand why you put so much effort into making them and what this game used to be about. I guess there’s a time for everyone when they start to lose interest in the things they used to love, for whatever the reason.
Thanks for helping make my experiences over the years more pleasurable. Good luck to you with life/school. Hopefully you’ll find something to replace the time you spent playing WoW that you love even more.

bye dude , gl irl , in my point of view you are totally right , the game simply went bad , i also lost interest and starting playing just casually until fully stopped.
I saw that many tbc heroes aka people who had fully achieved their wow gaming potential during this expansion , had the same wotlk fate or started playing with different classes , not sticking to one , or simply rerolling good ones. Lots of tbc rogues rerolled mages , cuz now on wotlk mages have the pvp efficiency which rogues had on tbc.

Man I agree with you 1000%
I simply cannot agree with you more.
I quit around the same time last year so it’s been about a year and I haven’t regretted it since.
The old wow was the true masterpiece that made wow the worldwide phenomenon it is today. Not the instanced game it is today and I could write a thesis on the myriad issues with the game today but I have pretty done so when I actually played and it did nothing. I felt the game going in the wrong direction from WotLK day 1.

1 of the best rogues who ever fought on the surface of Azeroth. I DL’ed all your films ages ago, even the real old ones. Keep watching them when I’m bored. I still keep being impressed how you handled that situation in that scene in that movie. Your technique, timing, cordination, precision, controls, prediction and understanding of the game mechanics etc. always keep me impressed. It’s what you said – skills. I stopped playing my rogue probably a half year ago because of the same frustation and “issues” as you and can compare my entire mind with what you writed above. I hope you will keep updating the site with random stuff just like Buddhist does with his website Thekingdomofernor.com. You’ve always been my rogue idol (lol) and always will be xoxo. Wasn’t the news I was expecting. After all, I thought that your absence was due to it being summer and all. First time actually posting here actually, and would like take some time to give you the appropriate thanks for the time you took out of your life to create the videos and articles you shared with the community. The dedication you also showed to this blog, similar to the skills you demonstrate, is also worth admiring. I can personally say that I, like many others, would not have the perseverance to constantly update and maintain a quality blog.
It’s unfortunate that you are leaving, but I guess it was inevitable, as no one could continue playing ,and at the same time, continue enjoying, WoW or in fact, any game for the rest of their life. Nevertheless, I truly wish you good luck on your journey of life and hope you periodically post something, as I really enjoy your style of writing ;P I am certain you will find something to devote your time to, and certainly hope you will enjoy it as much as you enjoyed playing WoW.
Hope to hear from you soon ;P Later!

This is a sad day for me. I’ve been waiting for a new post, and I was hoping it wouldn’t be this, Because this is the day that all of my favorite WoW bloggers are now not blogging about WoW anymore. BRK, Eurpides, and Now you, Akrios, have all quit. I was a terrible (PvP) rogue back in BC. I was told this by a rogue on my server, and he forwarded me to this website. I read your tips, watched your videos, and started keybinding (I had no idea at the time that it was the way to go, which it is) I transferred servers, to the terrible Fizzcrank server, and noticed many other rogues that were in my previous predicament. Every time I saw a rogue going into PvP keyboard turning, using sinister strike and not using stealth, I would send them to this website. usually, in a few weeks, I noticed them in BG’s (and occasional sporadic world pvp) doing much better. The loss of this blog, and your opinion is a critical blow to the Rogue community, I thank you for your years of help, and your Changing me from a scripted bossfight killing rogue, to a master of subtlety and assasination. Thank you, very much.

I love everything you’ve done with the sight, playing with you back in the day on Gurubashi a few times, and I wish you continued success with life. I have a fond memory of accidentally joining your chat channel and being ecstatic with talking to the real Akrios. I quite relate to what you feel towards WoW at the moment, though in another context altogether. And somehow I feel that, for all the reasons you’ve exposed (the worsening of community around WoW etc.) they’re all makeshift excuses. The number one reason is you don’t want to play anymore – most of the time is just a lack of interest that builds gradually while you play for so long. As for myself, I felt better when I accepted the fact that I just lost the interest in that particular area – this is quite hard to swallow especially when you’re good/very good at that and people see you as some sort of role model. Nothing wrong with it, if you feel like you wanna move on to some other things, peer pressure shouldn’t be a barrier. It’s your life not theirs.
Comment by Seba — July 28, 2010 @ 1:55 am

Think of where you are sitting now, in your chair reading this. Image how BIG the earth is compared to you. Then imagine, HOW BIG the sun is compared to the earth (you can fit 1 million earths into the sun). Now imagine, HOW BIG our solar system is, including the space between the planets. Got it?
K, Our solar sytem is on the outter edges of our milky way galaxy, it is a spec of dirt compared to the rest of the galaxy. There are 30 galaxies near us (one of which is crashing into us). Take that into some thought.
From our local group of galaxies, (30) there are HUNDRED’S OF BILLIONS OF GALAXIES!. Most of which (actually nearly ALL of which) we will never see, because the galaxies are expanding faster than the speed of light, so we can never see those’s galaxies light, ever. Every galaxy, is in a cluster of galaxies, that form a local group. That bind or stick together from the law of gravity. In between those galaxies, there is an unimaginable amount of space between them. This space will continue to expand.
Feel like being a geek right now so bear with me. All this must end, and not even this universe will last forever, (is there other universes out there? I think so). One with different laws at that, maybe there is no concept of time in one universe, or gravity. But I am getting out of hand, your sitting in your chair, and for now, that 8-15 square feet you take up is enough.
Goodbye akrios, all things must pass.

I used to come back here for PVP tips (it got me to top 36% in 2s with my druid friend ^_^) although i never really got that good haha.
I stopped playing a while back but always came back to roguerogue just to catch up on how my favorite class was doing, but this post put a smile on my face, reminding me why I quit the game myself, that WOW eventually stops being as fun as it used to be, and simply becomes a time sink. Farewell Akrios, and know you’ve made a sound choice. I know I have.

This couldn’t describe better the point ov view of the game i have of the game nowadays. The game i played for 4 years is slowly dying. World pvp is dead. PVP mixed Realms, Real ID = Horde chatting with ally. The magic is gone. I wish i could go back to the good old Pre-BC and BC days.
Comment by Välerie — July 29, 2010 @ 6:45 am
I will miss you a lot you’re a rogue god imo and you will always be the person who made my day when I saw a video of yours!
Anyway here is why people hate on World PvP at the moment, If you look closely on drakedog 9 and you compare the gear of the people he is killing you can actually see a HUGE difference in resilience on them both which makes it a lot easier for drakedog to kill them due to Chaos bolt basicly destroying them. Not saying he isn’t skilled or anything I loved the movie and the content just saying.
People did accept that world PvP was gone because they were most likely to be that guy who got killed in World PvP. And because it was just not found in PvP anymore in Wotlk so therefor Arena and BG’s just took it’s place and people just seemed to deal with it.
But I must say you are 100% correct about that thing that now people just sit in Dalaran and wait for their arena partners to log in.. Tho I personally find Orgrimmar Bank roof to be more satisfying to jump around on. I don’t know how many times I “quit” as you may call it due to all I was doing 85% of the game was jumping on a bank roof o.o
I’ll miss you, You’re a man of inspiration. I tip my hat for you sir!

Now that I’ve stopped playing for about 4 months, I’ve debated if it’s worth it to buy Cata and resubscribe for a month just to see how it is. The more I think about it.. Jumping on the Orgrimmar bank roof just isn’t worth that much… Plus everyone else I know has left. I wonder if Blizz will drag the game on forever or just cut it off?

Dear Akrios,
I do understand your point of view. Things werent the same anymore when TBC got released and alot more had changed when WOTLK came out ! I myself also quit for the same reasons… people’s attitude and the fact that arena was the only thing that would matter…BULLSHIT ! Things got to easy and people could get gear to ez…the epic feeling got lost since WOTLK was released …TBC was abit about skill but most skill was at lv 60…best times…something of me got lost when expansions were released but i played it along for socials friends ingame
To summary all; wise decision mate ! I enjoyed your movies from your first till last and always was a loyal watcher
! You made my 5 years playing wow fun and i learned alot from u
I hope and wish you all the best you can wish/hope for

i will admit i am abit down-heartened the fact that you have finally decided to call it a day. But to each his own, and your points for leaving, not that you had to make any, are in my eyes valid. Of the handful of rogues whom i have followed over the years, whilst all being a source of knowledge and entertainment, you have been a personal favorite. Always pushing boundaries, showing us new possibilities and that no-one is unbeatable. ^^ every video a pleasure to watch. Personal favorites id say would be Eviscerate 9 and Arena Vol. 2
Thank you.

Thank you for creating some of the best real PVP movies that the WOW community has ever seen. Ever since I started playing rogue a couple years back I have always looked to your site for advise and tips, there arn’t many other good rogue resourses available.
In regards to what you said in your farewell words I completely agree 100% (except for smoking less weed
). I don’t play WOW any more but was playing WOW casually on and off for 6 months, then have a 6 month brake, then play again for 6 months or so casually for a couple hours a week for the past 4/5 years. So I wouldn’t call myself a super hardcore player or “pro”. But I had my fair share of good and bad experiances just like everyone, but for the most part of it I played WOW for the PVP aspects. You know what ? WOW PVP is nothing like it used to be, not even close. I would say it was at its best back in vanilla WOW, BC was also good. It was fun to gear up to fight random players in open world zones, aswell as have epic battles with 20 or so players on each side. Come to think of it that was the reason that I got into WOW in the first place. I still enjoy PVP and it still has its moments but it is definatly not what it used to be, and I also agree with you that its not only the game itself but also the community.
I don’t really have the time to play these days either, nor do my friends so that also has something to do with me not playing anymore. I’m not sure if I’ll come back in Cataclysm because I don’t know if PVP will change much at all from how it is now. The next MMO that I might play will be SWTOR if I can find some time to play it lol.
Anyways, Akrios thank you again and farewell, best of luck to you in the future.

Comment by Steve / Evisrus — July 30, 2010 @ 2:16 am
NOTHING MORE TO SAY
Farewell Akrios and Good Luck in RL enjoy your life !

Farewell, Akrios, it’s been a blast. Loved and watched every single one of your videos. Nice to see your doing good, bro. Tis’ a rare thing to find someone who knows what PvP is and remember what WoW is. It isn’t blizzards fault the game isn’t on the amount of epicness it used to be in BC, it is, as you said, the communities for letting it happen. Ah well. World PvP was much fun, but so rare now, and what you find is rarely world PvP. It takes A LOT of digging to get World PvP clips or World PvP clearly. Best of luck to you, Akrios, and it’s nice to see someone who remembers what PvP is.

I’ve followed this website since the beginning when you were posting with Nition
This is really sad, but as we all know, WoW is merely digits and bits, nothing is real.
I’ll quote Bsnaff: “It was nice to know someone “up” the PvP food chain who was a human being”
I don’t know whwy, but I always thought that you were not that “nerdy” stereotype kinda guy. I’m so pleased to know that was true!
putting WoW aside, I’ve read everything you posted here, and I can say that you’re a highly-educated individual, and you’re an excellent writer, you should consider blogging, even about something else if you’re done with wow, maybe about life without wow?
PS:This website needs someone to take care of it..

Since Pre-BC, I’ve watched your videos, picked up on your style, I’ve seen it all. Seen every video made since the first eviscerate. I stood in disbelief as to the things you accomplished as a rogue. You have given the world (of warcraft) a great gift that was the privlege to watch you dominate the competition as what I consider a severely dettered class that takes great skill to take to its full potential.
I completely agree on many levels that this game as reached a very low point indeed. The fact that the only way to be successful in arena is to be a part of the inter-circle of players that are successful in arena. You can be the most skilled player on the face of the earth but if you dont have the ratings you’re just another scrubb 1600 hero to play with REAL 1600 heros. You can’t get the ratings without good teammates, you cant get the teammates without good ratings. It’s that simple. And though I am no longer in that position, it sickened me that rogues that I know are not “on my level” are in the circle, playing with the gladiators, getting dismantled during shadow dance.
You taught me without teaching me how to play a rogue with finesse and skill. Without your videos I may have very well still been a 1600 hero, not knowing a clue. Those other rogues do not have your style Akrios. They never will.
Best of luck in life, and everything you do. You’ve accomplished a lot in this shitty game.

Sorry for my typo, I meant to say in that butchered sentence “The fact that the only way to be successful in arena is to be a part of the inter-circle of players that are successful in arena, is very sad, considering to be in that circle you need to already be successful.”

Akrios, all I can see is that I admire your ability to entertain people and at the same time make them learn something from your vids, while watching.Imo it’s not even about the game or your pvp achievements and skill , but about the respect you gain among other players, proving your worth. Because after all for a man, even in a game ,the most important thing is to be respected for whom you are.And you’ve managed to achieve that, which is better than any pvp achievement or sponsorship.Good luck to you in RL!
Have fun.

Akrios,
I couldnt agree more. It truly is a sad time for WoW PvP in general. I persoanlly didnt start playing until a couple months before the release of TBC. But all through BC you and Nition were the 2 rogues who I always followed and the near disbanding of Noto was tragic. Just another prime example of how things were still decent even in BC; at least then clearing end game required progression which is what the game honestly lacks at this point and I hope Blizz really thinks about bringing back having to put effort into earning raid gear. Just to sum it up and end this, I wish you the best in all you do and want to thank you for your contributions to the community and showing that playing a rogue isnt about cheap openers and stunlocks but takes A LOT more effort. I know ill be enjoying Evis 9 and 10 for many years to come. Again, I wish you the best and good luck; you will be missed.

for a few years now, I would like to thank you for helping me better understand playing as a rogue, mostly because of your videos, I went from a clicking keyboard turner to someone that could actually pvp… a bit. I never made high ratings in arena but thanks to you I had conciderably more fun in playing the class. I even discovered my taste for trance music because of you ^^, your skills were always my goal to get, I wanted to be able to do that, and even though i never really could, I feel that I really learned a lot from you in the game. I wish you a good further life outside the world of warcraft. Wow will truly lose another great player.

Honestly, I don’t blame you for leaving. Lack of world pvp, even the mere interest in it coupled with crap raiding was what made me leave the game. I stopped playing in late December and canceled in early January. I’ve not looked back a single time. I’ve seen some things on Cata, and to be perfectly honest I am not excited at all. It really seems like everything Blizzard said they would never do…they’re now doing. Faction changes, making old-world flying mount accessible, transferring to pvp servers, the list goes on and on. The old WOW is long gone and I never see it really coming back, Cata will most certainly be the final nail in the coffin for world pvp. I agree with you on the comments made on Drakedog’s latest video. A lot of people hate on him anyway (I’m a big fan, having watched him since his first video), but hating on someone for world pvp? Something he’s ALWAYS done videos on? That’s just shows where the community is at this point.
Best of luck to you in what you do.
Comment by Fosul — August 2, 2010 @ 7:25 pm

take care man have a nice life and keep on hitting that gym you will see results in time.

i agree that the community destroyed the game and the world pvp etc. all the whinners and complainers etc got to the point that blizzard had to chance things witch slowly made the game disinteresting i mean you cant even gank someone in a major city without being destroyed afterward bye guards cause u cant vanish.
Well take care man thanks for all the videos really helped me out on my rogue
and keep hitting the gym you will like it afterwards ^^bye

Akrios,
I’m really sad that you left WoW, because it forces me to admit that I am close to being done with this, in my point of view, decaying game. Rogue has always been my favorite class, PvP has always been my favorite WoW activity, and I just realized that I did not seriously play my Rogue for several monthes, I’m just leveling alts just to travel in the old zones and in the hope of some world PvP.
I remember when I first see your videos, it was one where you were in Auchindoun doing some world PvP. I don’t know what it had special but since then “Akrios” has always been the Top Rogue reference in WoW. Of course there were other excellent players and comparison is pointless when you reach such a level of skill, but Akrios has always been the most entertaining. Music was always good and I always tried to find the tracks to listen to them while playing.
The first video you released in Wotlk showed itself how the game had changed and how it was broke: when you duel that Blood DK in the arena, forced to trick him with the pillar to beat him…
There’s a 99% chance that I’ll try Cataclysm but I really doubt Blizzard will suceed in making the WoW community feel like before.
One thing you say and I think it’s the same for me, is that even if from an objective point of view the game is much more flawed today than it was by the past, I just think vanillia players have changed too. I was 20 when I tried wow, now my studies are complete and I’m 25. That’s a lot of time, it’s hard to be entertained with the same thing for so long.
Well, WoW is just a game, but a game you play several years is special and it’s always sad to admit that we’re over it now. So much memories… I remember some quests, world pvp encounters etc., so well
I defended Brill, assaulted Southshore, Astranar, etc… even if I never went on a RP server there were always some RP in PvP servers. I remember when I was playing my lvl 15 priest something like 4 years ago, a Human Paladin entered Undercity, kneel down in front of the Throne there, and then a (long) fights occurs with another lvl 60 UD warrior. Nowadays, I’m sure people would just say “omg fucking noob paly” and think that the guy is wasting his time and sould be farming Randoms instead… That was the first WoW spirit, and I fear there is just the shadow of it now.
Well, time to stop writing and hurting everybody’s eyes with my broken english
Thanks for all your awesome videos, gonna download them all and store them, I’m sure I’ll watch them again some day, thinking “that was a great player in a great game”.
Best regards,
baruch

I was still looking 4ward 2 ur next video, wondering when it’ll come out, but well….I guess… (maybe next year? Hihi~) Oh well, bet u’ll come back during Cataclysm anyway
In all the vids, Eviscerate X is still my favourite one! I’ve watched it like a hundred times… 0 ,0 Really really awesome (+entertaining)~~~luv it!
And u…. you’re still my favo rogue =^_^=
Well… wish u good luck with ur life!

Akrios,
I’m an very old Vanilla player, I know precisely what you signify and feel about World PvP.
I remembered World Pvping at Tyr’s hand in EPL or Ashenvale, STV. I never had any particular good gear but I just treasured World PvPing and it was everything I did.
I never played as a rogue but I always loved your videos, even after quitting (I quit a year back) and don’t giving a crap about WoW I still get on warcraftmovies.com or roguerogue ONLY to see your kickass videos.
I’ll miss the songs you use in your videos; I’ve added every single song to iTunes.
Your skills as a rogue goes beyond mind’s eye, everything you create is truly awesome.
On every new video release I’d make it as comfortable as possible for me, I’d turn off the lights, load a beer, and just sit and watch your masterpieces.
Thanks man for the entertainment you gave me.
THIS IS THE FIRST AND LAST TIME YOU DIE AKRIOS, EVISCERATE…KING
Comment by Mattias — August 3, 2010 @ 4:30 am
Akrios,
From the very beginning of Vanilla BC I remember watching your first video. Thunderfury 1, it was one of the reasons I came to Gurubashi. Then with the coming of Burning Crusade, I reactivated my account and became absorbed again. In May of 2008 I was a frequent flier of Roguerogue.com, where all of your archives and exploits left WoW realm forums and became parts of WoW history. Steveywonder! We so fondly called you in Notorious, it was so much fun, getting mad at everyone while trying to down Mu’ru in Sunwell lolol!
You have truly been an inspiration to rogues, the community and to all the upcoming players this game has seen. You have had followers from all over the world following you since Gurubashi, I was one of them. It truly was a sad moment when everything began to fall apart for us in Notorious and we all went our separate ways. You however, never gave up, you continued what you always wanted. “To make the best rogue video ever created.” That’s why the words Rogue, Eviscerate and Metallica can only be referring to you. You created something here, with Nition, Aeias and several others. I hate to sound like such a girl, but it’s what I do =D
You will be missed Steven, you truly will be, and for all the haters/posers/fakes out there. There is no replacement, no imposter, no false idols, Akrios was the first, he was the last, there can only be one. Enjoy your life away from this cyclone of drama Steveywonder, your legacy lives on!!

Man I just randomly Googled you right now because I randomly thought about how inspirational your Eviscerate 4 was to me like 4 years ago. Reading this really made sense to me. I stopped playing WoW maybe 2 years ago. Life is good without WoW and you made a good choice, especially because WOTLK is utter garbage. World PVP and vanilla WoW, even the first half of TBC were the some of the best times of my 19 year old life…but there are definitely much more important things. Your Eviscerate 4 will always be on my hard drive. Peace.
Comment by George — August 5, 2010 @ 5:33 pm

Farewell akrios, you brought us entertainment and fun over the year..everything you did was incredibly good and i still have a handful of your vids on my hard-drive that i watch occasionally. i discovered trance mostly because of you and i owe you a HUGE thank you for that, your tracks were always top notch and all of ‘em are now playing regularly on my ipod
Lately, i restarted playing.. but the experience i have/had was disappointing. I’ve come to the same conclusion you wrote in that post. The only thing that kept me from quiting was Nostalgia.. i wanted wow to be like it was when i enjoyed it back then (and god knows how much i enjoyed it!) .. sadly that game’s on it’s way down , and life goes on!
Good luck with everything,
, and thank you one more time for everything you brought to wow community!

You were the reason because I a rolled a Rogue, although I’m playing a Mage now, which I have to admit is infinite times funnier than a Rogue. Akiros,
Which game will you be considering next? (Once a gamer always a gamer). And I do agree with you that WoW’s direction on arenas has taken the fun away from me. (Blackrock Alliance here).
I miss those days where max levels roam around STV looking for PvP, and where is Tauren Mill? *Sigh* (Yeah, I’ve played WoW since beta, and always a rogue).
See you Akiros, keep this name on games you play and I’ll try to find you.

I followed you ever since. Everything from my keybinds to the music i listen to now came from you. I do agree this expansion has been fucked up which is part of the reason i stopped playing recently as well. I thank you deeply for making this game a better experience for me and many others. Your updates, movies, and blogs have been a blast these past few years and i couldn’t have done half the shit i have done without your help. Akrios my friend you speak out of my heart.
do you vanilla-players remember:
remember when we raided stormwind
remember when we there were aliance raid groups inside the zeppelin?
remember the everlasting battle of tarrenmill?
remember Astrannaar ganks?
remember when people left when we joined warsong gulch?
remember when people started to do the bolonese-dance in arathibasin when we joined?
remember when we had ~50 duellers in front of ogrimmar?
remember the adrenalin when we were questing and got jumped by rogues?
remember when we played with improved gouge?
remember when we played the old assassination build? (man i loved this)
remember when we switched to the assassination/sublety hybrid spec? (warsong wins)
remember when we could vanish and pick up flag?
remember when we had real adversaries on our server?
remember when we beat the shit out of pve nightslayer rogues?
remember when we farmed alterac valley reputation (oh damn)
remember when we had to be careful of the mobs in heartglenn?
remember when we still had blinding/vanish powder? (run out? ohoh)
remember when we farmed rank 14?
remember when we would rock the pvp-world and later meet up for going out clubbing?
remember the fun we had?
i miss the old days.. always had. i too left wow a month ago for good.
i too am happy for the time i got now for my studies and my girl.
i agree with a poster above stating we have grown up as well in those 5 years.
to another poster above: nice example with that kneeling paladin btw.
Thanks for your contribution Akrios… that’s one thing i never did. I never shared many of the tricks and did so only to close friends. nothing matters now.

I admire you for being able to put into words these things that sometimes seem so obscure, and I couldn`t agree more. However, I personally found a sanctuary from the general ignorance that has become a norm on most realms. RP realms still have much of what was, not in the same quantities, but the community is still much more intelligent. Then again the rules of RP realms pretty much render world pvp impossible.
P.S.: Six Silent Shadows is still an unsurpassed video.

I liked your blog. But WoW is simply the wrong game to play competitively.
I know it’s fun, I also really like WoW PvP, and I’ll still keep on playing it, but it’s never going to be a great e-sport. The game is too big and complex, there are too many classes, abilities and so on, thus it’ll never be really balanced, with each patch there will be a different dominating comp. Blizzard is doing a good job but they can’t do the impossible. And a stealthy control class like the rogue is either too strong or too weak it seems, it’s very hard to find a balance there too.
There are lots of good competitive games out there, but WoW isn’t really one of them, even though Blizzard tries hard and it really is playable, but still there are so many weaknesses which seem unfixable.
PvE of course is never a problem – this can be balanced quite easily.
And yes, it’s true that the lack of World PvP makes levelling and travelling indeed boring, but then again, I really appreciate Blizzard getting rid of annoying time sinks. It was just such a waste of time just to travel everywhere back when meeting stones or the dungeon finder didn’t exist yet.

Akiros I’ve been watching your videos from the start, part of the reason I even got to be a gladiator was because of you. I played this game for fun as well then it got stagnant. It sucks I really enjoyed this game and your videos. Hope you do well in life, I left WoW about 3 months ago and I hope you’ll come back for cata just to see if the PvP ever gets any better. Would love to see another Eviscerate in cata. Good luck man and farewell.

I’ve been on here a lot over since this was started and Ive enjoyed watching your videos since the first, I’ve been playing since beta and seen the slow deterioration of wow as you’ve precieved. I’ve never posted on this site just looked and tryed to better myself as a person and player. I’ve trained and re-trained to better myself aspireing to be even halfway good at pvp. I idol you as a rogue and wish you the best of luck in life and hope all goes well.

While I didn’t play until 2.0 and not seriously until 3.0, and thus am begrudgingly a part of the shitpile mass of players that do not understand the true skill it took to play “back in the day,” I can most certainly appreciate your point of view and all that you did with the videos and the site bringing world-class roguery to the masses (no sarcasm). It’s a sad day to see you go, but I can see why it had to be done. I see a lot of people I know that have played since the heyday are going the same way as you.
Live well and have fun…

From France, a lot of my friends support you. The real WoW get vanish and a shit take is place. Arena comp, Arena & Arena again.. Where is World PVP? And yes, it’s true , nobody care.
Vurtne is gone ,Drakedog is back. It’s your turn to go? I think Cataclysm is a joke, WOTLK too.
Please Akrios, just a last movie. Eviscerate, this name.. I remember your nickname in all of my life!

To one of the few rogues making vids I actually enjoyed, good luck in what you decide to do.
I agree with many of your points made and have been facedesking the loss of pvp skill that started with crossrealms imo. There’s little to no knowledge of you go against anymore and everyone has become faceless in a mass of moronic zergs and HK farming. I try to keep pvp fun for myself by just doing what I do and hoping others will hold up and put in effort.

Bro, I feel you. I’m not much of a PVP guy, though I do like PVP, but it’s the same way with PVE. Back in the day we had to clear every raid one after another, busting our asses to down even the first tiers of raid bosses before we could move on. But it was glorious. Even the least progressed of us took pride in our downing of Ragnaros, Malchezaar, Malygos, or whoever. There was rich content and story with all of this.
Well nowadays, people just farm heroics that aren’t really Heroic for badges and skip to the end boss. GearScore is what’s important. It’s the numbers; the bones. The meat has been stripped recently and we can only hope it will return with Deathwing.
Fare well, fellow rogue.

I feel sorry that you are leaving (but i understand) and hope that you come back for early Cata for some tips n tricks. I have been saying fora while what u have said over the community and i consistently tell my brother that =). I thought of quitting until my bro started, but i personally dun know how long i will last either. Im just hoping for a community boost (via the new guild system) at least via the guilds. One plea that id like to have fulfilled leave is let the other rogues continue to post if you could =). You really stuck a chord within me and im getting a mad nostalgia when i think back to Vanilla when pvp meant pride, even during BGs. Anyway, i wish you the best and it would be nice to post if you are coming back shortly for cata or never. Farewell,

Bro, I wish I can smoke a blunt with you one day and just chill with you. I’d smoke you up anyday. Anyway, it’s because of you I started a rogue and got good with it. I would have never thought about starting one until I watched your Eviscerate 8 or something. But most importantly, you fucked up selling your rogue. You shouldn’t look at WoW like it ruins your life, it’s just a good ass video game. You should have just cancelled your subscription because who knows what goes down in Cataclysm. Again, this is just a game bro, a game you were a hero at and could have still been one in Cataclysm because that expansion could have really changed this fuck of a game it is right now. But your chance is gone. You have sold what is probably one of the biggest accomplishments in your life, admit it. You inspired so many thousands of people. You were actually a pretty chill dude, which is rare because I have a hot girlfriend and doing great in life, proof that this is just a game. Just sayin, you have deleted some virtual data that has inspired thousands of people.

Dear Akrios, I have really enjoyed all that you have done in all of this years. I am playing a rogue since Season 2 (TBC) and i really learn all that i know nowadays thank to Neilyo and you, and for sure other rogues helped me too like (Krymu, Acrono, Mahiko, Buddhist…) all this people has left WoW too… i always feel that WoW has died when WoTLK was released… but well I will really miss that Akrioss vs Neilyo duels and World PVP with grenades, boots, all the stuff and all the skill, effort you put in all recorded clips.
I will remember you like all the people remember Neilyo and Grim, etc.
One rogue more to remember in our minds for all the next WoW days…
I will continue playing my rogue at his maximum skill level but that’s not the same as the past. I am with you in all what you told. To be the best it’s not to be the most skilled… nowadays is to be the friend of popular people and play with them…
I will try to make a video in your honor and to remember that nowadays there are rogues that are constantly trying to improve and to be the best rogue that has never existed
Legend, Akrios
See you man ^^

Hi Akrios, you’ve maybe seen me post on here a few times in the past (mostly trolling/jokes lol). truth is I am a nice guy, my GM always refered to me as one of her best friends, I realize now that I play wow because I enjoy playing it with friends. My point here is, today, 1 year ago to be exact I started my first toon on world of warcraft, a rogue. I leveled him to 4 and quit for a few weeks lol. I picked it back up when my brother told me to start playing, he made a resto druid and we started playing. At first, constantly looking for a tank on our server for 5 man vanilla dungeons was nearly impossible, I cam remember the first times I’ve seen starfall, volley, fan of knives, death grip. I thought they were so cool.
When I finally found out about PvP at level 26, I can remember constantly doing BG’s because I had so much fun with them. The first time I’ve heard about your rogue was when I hit level 67, watching eviscerate 9.
I thought I was good at my rogue when I keyboard turned lol. After watching you I binded my keys, and used strafe to move. I had always dreamed of doing epic world PvP moments when I saw your videos. It was my ultimate goal. It wasnt til around January-Febuary of this year I discovered, the only PvP anyone does is arena in woltk. Although this made me extremely disappointed (literally it was unreal no one on my server did world PvP, it seemed like the holy grail of PvP.)
After a while I got into arena’s, they werent bad, and even fun at times, but nowadays its rare to find good 3s partners that actually want to put time into arena, I cant tell you how many warlock teams we faced, in 2s and 3s. It got to the point where I couldnt find ANYONE to arena with, ultimately I ended up server transfering, and since I had no clue where to go, so I went to blackrock lol. found a disc priest and got to 2k in my first arena season. It was my goal, really my only one. After you made this post so many things lit up in my head, what I had always wanted to do was world PvP, my hate for arena, the fact when people come up to inspect me, they dont look at my HK’s, or duel me, they look at my rating and LOL URBAD.
Right now, my brother whom inspired me to play wow really, is in afghanistan, (marine corps). When he gets back I am thinking of making my warrior or priest my main. The romance of rogues seems to be at an end in wow right now. I cant even find the comp I’ve always wanted to run on my rogue, RMP. Mostly because the priest insisted on looking up strats instead of practicing, because it was all of our first times at RMP and he instead spent his whole night doing 2s, trying to get to 2k. I left the team the next day after he never said anything about trying again.
Anyway that was just my outlook on wow, the fact that you inspired me to play my rogue to be possibly the best. Eviscerate 9 will always be my favorite wow video.
btw fuck qtfemtaur

te deseo suerte y que ese guerrero interno que se exteriorizo en el wow, no muera, simplemente esta tomando un descanso…

Hope to see you in cataclysm

You know, i’ve always been a big fan of yours. And just a few days ago i was wondering: Where did akrios go? why is it only some trashy arena videos on WCM..
Then it stroke me, has world pvp died? Yes it has. Funny thing is, i’ve decided to take a huge break from wow, atleast until cata comes. And this happend just today. Now i just got home from a party, and i was chilling on facebook when i decided to go to roguerogue.com and i read all this.
The last few months ive been looking at Reckful / woundman movies, and seriously with all due respect that shit isnt entertaining. But i guess it all comes down to what you say Akrious, the forums have marked it as ok.
I do not really want to blame these atm “top players” wich i recall as Reck/wound. But when i look into their movies i see 3 players, versus 3 players in arena. I didnt really copy the shit they were doing. But i mean what damn rogue cant play in a top team of RLD and preform like “awesome”. All i see in those movies are, well excuse me but shit.. Just shit. Dot dot dot, switch switch dance dance dead.
You know when i read the thing about world pvp, and that the players who started out with wotlk dont know shit.. You know you’re so right, i remember for example Isle of quel danas. Probably one of the best things about TBC. Where you could gank allies for 12 hours straight. Just waiting, for the perfect opportunity to have a 2 or maybe even a 3 versus 1 experience. It was, i dont know but some kind of special feeling to the game. And as i write this i remember a 70 PvP video you made, where you were killing 2 gnomes. One mage and one warlock, you used an adamantite bomb to gain some extra seconds on the mage. And as i watched that movie, i decided to reroll an undead rogue. I was currently playing troll rogue “:D”.
Anyway, im pretty drunk so this probably makes no sence. But, seriously, and this will probably sound pretty pathetic.. But thanks for everything, the inspiration, the kickass awesome movies, and for being a great player. You are for me a master of the rogue class. So once again, thanks for everything i’ve gained through-out your movies.
Sorry for the bad english, im hmphmph… and my main language isnt english
Best regards Zedancekíng, Aka Kakktuz da troll.
Comment by Zedancekíng — August 20, 2010 @ 6:09 pm
Oh by the way, i wrote a poem for you ( im terribly bored)..
From shrugs and torns, a hero is born. A day, a prey, ok im not gay so please stay. A little wish, comes out with a squish. A heroes call, a thiefs grief. We all have it inside of ous, an inspiration, a sweet little creation. But one day it will all disappear, it will come like a sphere, we’ll all be feared. When that day comes, the only one who can save you, is yourself.
Srsly its sad to see you go. I’ve been a big fan of you ever since the beginning of the eviscerate series. And now with you gone from WoW, i’ll probably also leave. WoW is like a romance with no love innit. You just play it cause you’ve done it for the last years, but you do no feel any love for it.
Once again best regards from Dentarg EU Zedancekíng. Now ima go puke and go to bed.

Hello. First of all i want to thank you Akrios for all that you’ve done for the rogue community, it is from your website that i learned to play the basics of the rogue class before starting to improve myself by my own.
I really understand your frustration of the game, and you’re totaly right, in WoW, if you know the sponsored players and become “friends” with them, you will succed no matter what. Skill is becoming so secondary and it’s getting worse everyday. The biggest problem remains to find competent partners, i’ve been spamming for 4 days for an RLS or RLD and had no response. It’s so lame.
Anyhow gl in irl and try cata out, might come out to be a good expansion, you never know.

I feel your pain man, I was recently forced to stop playing wow because of rl, but I don’t regret it in the least. I played a lot of pvp (over 120,00 hks on my rogue) and I had a blast, but I never enjoyed too much success in arenas. I think the two factors you described were spot on and that’s what really hindered me as well. #1) I played a lot of really gimp comps and I can’t help it that my friends don’t play classes that make really great arena comps with my own #2) I never bothered to get into the “pvp club” on my server so I couldn’t find good partners after my friends stopped playing or ran into rl stuff that prevented them from playing.
Anyways GL with your rl stuff and I’ll always count you among the greatest rogues ever.

Good entry on a good blog. I think it’s the flying mounts that killed WoW, with the introduction on Flying Mounts in TBC everything changed – you could no longer linger outside the instance (BRD) and have awesome world PvP. They have spoiled it in TBC by introducing Flying Mounts and probably destroyed forever with introduction of LFG system. These days one can just sit in Orgrimmar and click “Queue In” Button. I think Blizzard is killing WoW on pourpouse – they are making ground for Diablo III and then for upcomming MMO.

Can we just turn this post into a Forum? I’ve quit WoW too… so what’s the next best MMO?

Hello.I started at TBC and still i liked the rare-world pvp.I liked to just go and gank at Isle of Quel Danas with my ret paladin and then with my rogue. But now all i can do is play a BG but it has no sense and teammates irritate me.Then comes the BGs which are irritating itself like:Strand of the Ancients and Wintergrasp.I want to get those world pvp moments back…Or atleast an Isle without Flying mounts…

I’ll be honest with you, I’m really sad to see you go. I’ve been watching the evicerate series ever since TBC and it’s had a definite positive effect on my overall wow experience. Because of you and your videos, i play an undead rogue(which is by far my favourite class), I’ve become a great duelist (favourite PvP medium), and although unrelated to the game, trance has become my favourite genre of music. With WoW in its current state, im not surprised you (among many great video producers on WCM and players) are quitting. I hope to see you in the upcoming expansion. It’s probably too much to hope for but who knows… maybe Catalysm will be the best thing that ever happend to the game. I wish you best of luck in life.

Well I guess I’d like to say that I fully agree with you about the post and that World-pvp have died, Only way to find a player outside of dalaran is if you visit IF/SW which is ridiculous, and that the rest is brainwashed through this arena shit. I come across some guildies and asked if any would like to hang out over to the capital cities for some ganking, and my first respond was
- No, what do I get from it? Do I get shiny epixx? Rofl why don’t you just enter a bg to meet allies.
I’d like to thank you for making theses incredible videos over the years that I’ve watched from start to finish specially the Eviscerate series. I’ve allways felt entertained no matter what you come up with in your videos, and this is my small little post to tell you and to wish you a big good luck in the future.
Sorry for some bad english, Greetings from Sweden.

I know exactly how you feel man, Ive been playing this game for, oh what has it been almost 6 years now? I quit for the same reason you did. I remember the response the community gave DD9 vividly, and it made me sick… I recall way back in vanilla, when PvP WAS world PvP. Those Epic battles fending off a 1vX gank attempt while leveling, or the feeling of being able to bring down a player 10+ lvls higher than you out in the field was awesome. Even just running around at 60 hunting the opposing faction for the sake of hunting them – that doesn’t happen anymore.
And now that arenas and GS mean everything to everyone, the game has taken a huge downfall, and the community just let it happen. Everyone playing WoW now doesn;t understand, they don’t know what its like to REALLY work for your epic PvP gear (grinding to R13/14.) They all want everything as fast as possible, all these instant gratification types now, hell they even complain about AV taking more than 15 mins – I remember when it could last for DAYS! lol
All in all, it was time to move on, the community in WoW (and most the gaming community in general) have turned into these kind of people.
Good luck out in the RL man, it’s been fun – see ya!
Comment by Divënity — August 26, 2010 @ 1:26 am
You are correct. The world pvp back in level 60 was amazing, the entire arena concept was also really good in TBC, also leaving room for doing world pvp, but you can’t anymore, because people does’t even have to move to instances.
I’d say I’m a fairly skilled rogue, but I don’t do arenas at the moment, because I don’t feel that it’s neccessary, I’d rather play with my friends enjoying the game.
(Used to be 2200-2300 rating @ al’akir season2, and 2400 season3 outland. Peace out)

Wow bro, i’ve been a big fan of yours for a long time and am sad to see that you are finished… you’ve definitely helped me become a better rogue, shit you’re part of the reason why i started a rogue in the first place. major kudos to you and your accomplishments IRL, and i hope things work out.. WoW wont be the same without the occasional updated Video of your toon kicking someones ass, but atleast your leaving for the better.. If its any consolation i personaly rate you as one of the best rogues i’ve seen..
Good luck man, God bless

Amen brah, I agree with everything you said about world PvP and how it’s changed the way we look at WoW. I’m one of those old school world pvp’ers that “ventures out of Dalaran” to get some real PvP action going on. The old EP battles and Halaa world pvp was what made this game in BC awesome.
I absolulely agree with the assessment of “who you know” and “what comp you’re running” in terms of success. 5v5 for instance, is the easiest bracket to run people for gear. Why? because it’s a key smashers dream with no skill whatsoever. The Elitist idiots out there running faceroll comps make me sick. I am a mage btw.

I’m sorry for my bad english, because i’m a russian gamer.
On the first private server i’ve played on every skilled rogue always told me – If you really want to kick asses as rogue – search for some Akrios movies and i think someday you will play just like he does. I found your videos – the first i’ve seen was Evis 5 or 6… After that i’ve watched all your movies and my skill began to grow up by copying some your tactics and tricks, that i didn’t used. Man, i want you to know, that you are a legend in all the world. I agree with your post and i think that you’ll also succed in real-life. I also think, that i will leave this drug-game that wastes my time too, when the cataclysm starts. I would aprecciate if you’ll continue publicate your posts on roguerogue.com. It’s really too hard to lose a legendary rogue like you. /bow…

Think we all can agree that u r a legend now. Farewell and gl IRL. I quitted wow 2 now, because it was getting lame. Mostly because the only decent thing u can do in wow atm is arena..
Comment by Zedanceking — September 3, 2010 @ 10:12 am
Sad to see you go, but I don’t really blame you. Thanks for the great videos and the great attitude. Especially your attitude, which has been lost to most pvp’ers for a long time now, it’s still refreshing to see. GL in RL and have fun.

I too left WOW the beginning of July. IMO it became more about gear than skill. I must say, I loved playing my rogue and feel I became a better player from ur helpful tips and advice, though never to your caliber.
What will you do now? U have a wealth of knowledge of WOW and the gaming community and it would be a shame to let that go to waste. I’ve been mulling over some business ideas related to WOW, perhaps we could collaborate in the future.

Damn man, I remember reading this and checking this site daily just for advice or new updates because it was always interesting watching either your movies or what you had to tell people, not sure if it was you a few months ago but the post about you getting laid the following day really had me laughing and I burst out laughing in my English Class when I read it, causing everyone to stare at me. >.>
Anywho: I remember not even knowing who you were but I remember wanting to play a rogue and my 2v2 partner saying “Hey, go to Roguerogue.com, read some shit there.” and I immediately fell in love with the website, your movies and I became utterly captivated by just how amazing you were and you were one of the few decent pvpers I know that I actually didn’t dislike because they were arrogant douchebags. You didn’t flaunt around and say to people: “Hey, I’ve made all these videos, I’m better than you so shut the fuck up.” but instead you seemed more down to Earth and you helped a lot of rogues get their start in this game. I remember watching your movie and getting on my friends rogue to try mutilate and utterly failing at it but I kept at it.
Now I have a level 80 rogue which I have gotten damned decent with and I hope to take what you’ve taught me and apply in it Cataclysm at 85 and hopefully make a video that tries to somewhat pick up where you left off, granted I am not sure if it’ll even be decent, or even if I do create something decent, it’ll still never be nearly as great as the “Eviscerate” series, and I don’t believe ANYTHING that ANYONE could put out would be nearly as entertaining as the Eviscerate series just because you had something about your videos that showed you took the time to work on them, you didn’t slap 50 clips together, throw in music and call it good, you actually edited them, the work on Eviscerate X alone states that since you had clips from the beginning of Wrath until mid-late 2009.
As I said earlier, you taught many rogues, you gave us hope and inspiration, you probably opened the door to the rogue class for many and that definitely has to mean something in life, you weren’t a player, you were a legend. . . /salute.
