Unmercey 8 Review, Working on a new Arena Vid, Season 8 Initial Thoughts

So I got an early look at Unmercey 8. Unmercey has been playing on and off for a while, and it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a video from him. He’s gone to China and back since Unmercey 7 was released. There’s also been a drought in rogue videos lately so this should be a welcome addition for people. It’s also worth noting that this is probably Unmercey’s biggest video project, a ton of work and time went into this and it shows.

First, there’s lots of what you’d expect. Tricks everywhere! Using rogue mechanics in creative ways has always been Unmercey’s greatest strength in his videos for me, and there is lots of this. Sapping as an instant ability hits, mind control helmet usage, and tons of other stuff throughout the vid you’ll get a chance to see. It seems like BC and WOTLK kind of took these few tricks and mechanics out of the game largely, but Unmercey shows that’s there’s still a lot of fun to be had. If I had to describe this video in one word, it would probably be fun.

The video has no arena, lots of 1v1 and 1vn. Some of the opponents are kind of mediocre, but there’s a lot of amazing players mixed up in there as well, so it evens out. And something a lot of people don’t understand is the nature of 1vn, especially as a rogue, is that you’re not going to fight two quality players and walk away. The fact that this video has so much world PvP content is really a testament to the effort that went into it.

Music was on point, even if it’s not your cup of tea, and editing was quality as well. That being said, I haven’t seen the version with the machinima intro, so once that’s added it should be superb. The intro is being done by Baron Soosdon, a machinima artist you’ll probably be familiar with if you visit warcraftmovies often. One of the weaknesses with the video is that the content is a bit dated, but I don’t think that effects my experience. Overall, a great vid for me and definitely worth checking out when it’s posted. I’ll be sure to link it here when it’s ready.

Season 8

Well season 8 is upon us and the resilience change is in full effect. With a chance for things to settle a bit, we can begin to get a feel for the current balance of things. Outside of arena, rogues are a travesty, but luckily wow pvp is completely based around arena. As far as 3s goes, it really feels rmp has lost its punch. It’s kind of sad that at points this comp was labeled as overpowered and people called for nerfs. Now, I don’t really see this working without top players with amazing synergy. At the same time, RLS remains what I feel is the strongest rogue comp. Just playing a bit of RLS, it feels like only hunter teams (particularly a good beast cleave) can really dominate you. UA has the ability to spread so much pressure, especially with shaman support, and with a ton of interrupts this is easily the best rogue comp right now.

I’ve also been playing a lot of 2s recently, and I am seeing a significant increase in rogue teams here. Even though the bracket doesn’t really matter, it’s still there and it does matter for the people that play it. We did get 5th last week as shadowpriest / rogue, and although we have a lot to learn it’s the most fun I’ve had playing 2s in a long time. It’s a double dps comp that doesn’t play like one, you have the ability to have these super long 2s games (for double dps) that just don’t happen as rogue mage. I haven’t 5s’d yet this season, or expansion for that matter, so I’m not sure how balance is fairing there.

Arena Vol. VII

So instead of making that duel movie, I’ve decided to just add those duels to arena vol. vii. I need to record a lot more arena, but I already have things in motion and once I get the content by playing more arena, the video shouldn’t be that far away. I’ll give more details as things progress, but pretty much the more I play arena, that faster this will be finished. Clips will (hopefully) be from RLS and 2s with a shadowpriest. Even though 2s is a dead bracket, I think it’s still probably the most clean and entertaining to watch. So to quote my drunk self, “ARENA VOL. VII (lucky?) IS IN THE WORKS AND ITS GOOLD<”. Solid gold.

    Unmercey is probably the most creative and entertaining rogue i’ve seen (sry akrios). Its good to hear he is coming back :)
    I dont think anyone will mind the outdated content. Hell i still like to watch World of Roguecraft every now and then and that’s OUTDATED!

  11. I just know that Unmercey 8 is gonna be awesome and filled with new unique rogue tricks that I can make use of myself. Will be interesting to see some arena footage from S7/S8 in Arena Volume VII as the last volume was quite a while ago (I’m guessing that this is where he’ll be taking the footage from).

  13. Sp/Rogue would be lovely. The strength of that comp comes with the huge combined burst that RM has along with the sustainly high dmg of a SP. Been playing that comp a lot myself and the difference from Sp/rogue to RM I noticed at first back in around season 2 was that ur target could get its health back from 10%-100% but you would still have that kill opportunity in every single ks if you worked it out right. Looking really forward to it.

    Here’s a good focus blind macro for you.. Press it once to put target as focus, press it twice to blind the target. You need to clear/kill the focus before you can change the focus with the macro. Hope this helps.

    i have copy paste the makro but when i press it once it put my target as my focus.
    but when i target nothing or another target an i press it it changes my focus target.
    i have the german version but normaly thats no problem.
    i only chang the Blind against Blenden

  37. Not sure on that one… Have you tried it against an enemy in battlegrounds or arena or something? I know if you try it on friendly characters, like people in your party or people in dal or something, it will clear it and change it.. But if it’s in battlegrounds or arena it keeps that one target the whole time. Not sure if that’s what it is or not. : /

  53. Akrios I would like to know your thoughts on sub for the upcoming patch (as well as the thouhts all the few reasonable rogues that post here).

    I think it could be viable, the only problem i see its the snare effect, hemorrage its now viable and shadowstep will be used every 20 seconds, ghostly strike its also buffed for daggers, backstab now its down to 40 energy just like a sinister strike..but it gets +30% critical strike from talents and much more damaged.

    Those are just a couple of things i see but i would like to know your opinion.
    Sorry for my english if something is wrong Im from europe.
