So I started working on gear since December and I think I’ve come close to catching up. With honor gear coming out tomorrow with 3.32, I’ll outline what gear I’m going with next season. I realize people may have other ideas with PvE options, but I think my gear will be pretty accessible with some moderate PvE work.
As far as the resilience change, I don’t think maxing out resilience is the answer; you’ve already gained survivability with the buff so wasting stat points on resilience seems like a waste to me. You’ll be getting that extra resilience as you gain new pieces of wrathful gear, but as long as you are at 850 + until those upgrades you should be fine. Depending on your comp you may even want to dip lower than that. I’ve also included most of the currently available PvE loot so people have an idea what’s available.
Notes: I’ll update this with links to wrathful when it’s released, and further updates as more PvE gear becomes released and available. If there’s any glaring mistakes, please leave a comment and I’ll get to it when I can.
PvP Rogue Gear Possibilities For Season 8
Rings
Wrathful Ring -
Location: PvP Honor Reward
Ashen Band of Endless Vengeance – The exalted ring is a bit of a pain to get, but its the best ring available. If you don’t have time for exalted, I would at least suggest getting the revered version. I socket this with 40 AP.
Location: ICC Rep Reward, Reputation with the Ashen Verdict
Saurfang’s Cold-Forged Band – Armor Pen and Haste aren’t the best choices for PvP, but not a bad option if you’re considering going double PvE Rings.
Location: ICC 10, Deathbring Saurfang
Band of the Bone Colossus – Not a big fan of the haste but it’s another viable hit option if you can get it.
Location: ICC 25, Lord Marrowgar
Seal of Many Mouths – The expertise isn’t great for PvP.
Location: ICC 25, Rotface
Neck
Wodin’s Lucky Necklace - It was a big gold sink for me, but I don’t see another way to get hit cap without going too far over and wasting stats on it. It’s really BiS unless you absolutely need the resilience. If you can’t afford it, wrathful is the obvious alternative. If you get wrathful ring and neck, you may need the hit versions of both to reach PvP hit cap but you go pretty far over which is a waste of stats. The additional socket makes this neck pretty amazing.
Location: ICC Trash Drop, Auction House
Precious’s Putrid Collar – Not a bad choice and the red socket is a cool bonus, but not really on the same level as Wodin’s.
Location: ICC 10, Festurgut
Trinkets
Now things get a little bit more vague for the trinket category. I personally am not a big fan of battlemaster’s. The attack power on it is nice, but I find I mostly die during stuns or cc, it will rarely save you and a lot of the times games are already decided by the time you need to use it. I know a lot of people who love it though so it’s not really an easy choice, and the question is, if not battlemaster, then what? It really depends on your luck and access to PvE gear.
Here are some options other than battlemaster that may work for PvP:
Death’s Verdict - Probably the best choice for offensive trinket, but also probably the least accessible. A very low drop chance but if I could choose, this would be my ideal second trinket for PvP.
Location: ToC or ToGC 25, Fjola Lightbane
Deathbringer’s Will – Like Death’s verdict, a strong offensive trinket, but very hard to get. I understand it’s being changed to haste so it might not be a great option for pvp, and I’m generally not a big fan of this trinket, but if you have access it’s definitely an option.
Location: ICC 25, Deathbringer Saurfang
Whispering Fanged Skull – This is the trinket I got in icc 10 (normal version). So far I’m fairly happy with it so far, in my current relentless pvp set I’m at 44.3 crit, and with next season’s upgrades I should be getting close to almost 50 percent crit. It has a 35% procrate with an ICD, so like most other proc trinkets it will go off during the opener.
Location: ICC 10, Lady Deathwhisper
Tiny Abomination in a Jar – Another option, maybe not perfect for PvP but if you have access it’s worth a try. It also can solve hit concerns and mean that you don’t need to get the wrathful hit ring/neck/cloak. Anyone have any experience with it?
Location: ICC 25, Professor Putricide
The other options are a bit outdated. Bandit’s insignia and Darkmoon Death or Greatness just aren’t what they used to be, although the spell damage is nice the passive stats are lackluster and the burst of the proc is comparable to a poison tick. The frost emblem trinket, Herkuml War Totem, just doesn’t fit for me for PvP in my opinion because unless you are constantly attack a target you won’t get it’s full benefits, and haste is a pretty bad passive stat.
As far as second trinket (for non-humans), the choice remains between the wintergrasp attack power pvp trinket and the resilience one. If you’re getting a lot of PvE gear in your PvP set, you may consider the resilience one, especially if they update it. I’m still hoping for an update to the offensive WG pvp trinket.
Cloak
Recovered Scarlet Onslaught Cape – Another amazing PvE item that’s readily available for frost badges. If you can sacrifice the resil, this is a very accessible and must have item.
Location: ICC, Frost Emblem Reward
Wrathful Cloak – If you need the resilience, wrathful is another choice. Remember to decide between hit and crit depending on what you need to satisfy PvP hit cap.
Location: PvP Honor Reward
Thrown
Shrapnel Star – Another easy to obtain item (only 30 Frost emblems) that can fill one of the PvP slots where I find the stat allocation to be weakest. Once again, it will depend how much resil you want to balance but personally I see this as an obvious choice.
Location: ICC, Frost Emblem Reward
Wrathful Thrown – The obvious alternative.
Location: Arena Points Reward
Belt
Soultheif’s Braided Belt – If you need hit and are lucky enough to get this, you might consider it. It’s a 10 000 gold cheaper hit solution than Wodin’s.
Location: ICC 10, Lady Deathwhisper
Vengeful Noose – Another badge option here. I’m not a big fan of the ArP, but it’s a very accessible option if you are willing to sacrifice resilience for more damage.
Location: ICC, Frost Emblem Reward
Wrathful Belt – The obvious PvP alternative. I’ll likely be using this.
Location: PvP Honor Reward
Bracers
Warthful Bracers -
Location: PvP Honor Reward
Toskk’s Maximized Wristguards -If you decide to offset on wrists, this is probably your only option, and I’m not a big fan
Location: ICC 25, Deathbringer Saurfang
Boots
Wrathful Boots -
Location: PvP Honor Reward
Frostbitten Fur Boots -Apple bottom jeans, boots wit da fur.
Location: ICC 25, Lord Marrowgar
Helm
Wrathful Helm -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Shoulders
Wrathful Shoulders -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Chest
Wrathful Chestpiece -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Location: ICC 25, Gunship
Gloves
Wrathful Guantlets -
Locations: Arena Points Reward
Location: ICC 10, Deathbringer Saurfang
Legs
Wrathful Leggings -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Plague-Soaked Leather Leggings -
Location: ICC 10, Festergut
Gangrenous Leggings - Another choice to satisfy PvP hit cap if you are so inclined. Lots of sockets and a nice socket bonus, but only one of them is red. Might be worthile to pursue if you want to satisfy meta requirements.
Location: ICC 25, Festurgut
Set Items
For me, I will be going full wrathful this season. I feel I can get away with some PvE gear to boost stats, but there is a limit. The 4 set attack power bonus makes having at least 4 pieces a pretty easy choice unless you have access to heroic mode tier 10. The 4set t10 is nice, but is it worth sacrificing the set bonus of Wrathful? I don’t think it’s worthwhile in a mutilate spec where combo building isn’t an issue. If you do, you may consider going 4 set and full offset PvP gear, but for the average player who doesn’t have ready access to full t10, wrathful should suffice.
If you don’t want to worry about hit from PvP gear, you have the option of picking up the tier 10 shoulders, but it’s not something I would consider without access to at least the ilvl 264 version.
Weapons
It goes without saying that wrathful weapons will be the obvious choice for PvPr’s, 1800 and 2200 versions respectfully, depending on your level of play. But if you happen to get lucky you can get some PvE weapons in the mean time, and maybe pick up some other wrathful pieces. I’ll include weapons other than daggers when a non dagger spec becomes arena viable.
Wrathful Spike -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Wrathful Mutilator -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Wrathful Shiv -
Location: Arena Points Reward
Location: ICC 25, Rotface
So as of right now, here’s my personal item plan, based on what I have access to and have currently…
Head – Wrathful
Neck – Wodin’s Lucky Necklace
Shoulders – Wrathful
Cape – Recovered Scarlet Onslaught Cape
Bracers – Wrathful
Gloves – Wrathful
Belt – Wrathful
Legs – Wrathful
Boots – Wrathful
Ring 1 – Ashen Band of Endless Vengeance
Ring 2 – Wrathful
Trinket 1 – Whispering Fanged Skull
Trinket 2 – Titan-Forged Run of Determination
Thrown – Shrapnel Star
Weapons – 2200 Wrathful Weapons, both shiv and mutilator for situational use

and btw how much was the necklace you payed so much for
Comment by condemned — February 1, 2010 @ 4:37 pm
Under the Bracers section, you listed Wrathful Boots
Other than that, I’ll probably be using battlemasters since I would rather poke an eye out instead of raiding again, especially on my server.

IF u need hit another possible cloak option could be http://www.wowhead.com/?item=50764 or the heroic version http://www.wowhead.com/?item=51933 if u have access to it.

Hey Akrios, I Seen U In Armory, And U No Have Taken Improved Eviscerate, But When In Arena U See A Destru Lock/Mage Or Other Cloth Armor, U Turn To 2 1,80 With WP? Or Stay With 1,8 1,4 DP. (:Sorry Bad English:)

If it’s anything like previous seasons, there won’t be a wrathful hit ring – they usually alternate between hit and crit from season to season.
Comment by chronic — February 2, 2010 @ 2:30 am
Wrathful ring will have crit instead of hit

Comment by Falus — February 2, 2010 @ 3:49 am
On trow wep i still use my Ulduar 10HM trow wep with a nice socket in it and find it still BiS for pvp and im using Ikfirus Sack of Wonders which really works wonders.. i need the Neck you are talking about and the belt and i will be on same resi as kalimist and even have more AP then him H3H3 and im not even a JC like he is
Comment by Xethrius — February 2, 2010 @ 5:01 am
@Mibr
Using Eviscerate is only good against Mages and Rogues, everything else you generally want to be using Envenom. Because of how situational it is, picking up 3/3 ruthlessness and 3/5 leathality is generally better unless all you’re facing is RMP.

Thx Srsbusiness!
And one last question for anybody who can answer me, why Akrios said 850 + is Fine, why not 900 or 700? rogues got a ress cap? or is based on % of damage/crit reduccition? i Still dont know if choose 1000 temple 4600 ap or 750 temple 5000ap.
thanks in advance.

Nice post, I like seeing you active in last couple of days. Every time I come here, there’s something new. Keep it up. Nice list.
Cheers

is it just me or does it seem like the human rogue advantage is really starting to shine? stacking death’s verdict with whispering fanged skull seems like the most brutal rogue opener combo in a long long while… thats probably like 20% more damage counting a 1760 ap proc plus increased crit chance
(ps: unless the racials have changed since i stopped playing O_o)
Comment by abeOfArabia — February 3, 2010 @ 4:32 am
Akrios are u sure u get 5% hit with this gear setup ?
Isnt that the necessary ?
Comment by Weeh — February 3, 2010 @ 4:55 am
#17 Him got 2 hit epic gems (20 hit).

When would you use 1.40 offhand, and when would you use 1.80?
Comment by Cali — February 3, 2010 @ 5:49 pm
A comment about The “tiny abomination in a jar”: I picked up one last week and the motes of anger stack pretty rapidly, I’m afraid i haven’t tried out allot in pvp yet but I’m not sure it will be that great. there is however no timer on the motes, they stay around until u stack 8 (then u get the extra melee swing for 50% mainhand dmg)or until you unequip it. so if you play a setup when you zerg things down it might provide some extra burst, but I guess there are better options. As a side note it procs motes of FoK. I got up to 8 motes from a fok (in pve ofc)meaning in u can get an extra 50% melee swing / global. very situational use in arenas (foking snaketrap etc) just a sidenote tho. hope someone has some use of the info

You haven’t stated what chest you’re going to be using mate.
Comment by Mikeh — February 5, 2010 @ 11:25 am
akrios, what pve daggers would you use if they were available to you? eg, Heartpierce, (ICC 25) TOC hc stuff.
Comment by bob — February 5, 2010 @ 12:00 pm
Well, the only problem with youre personal item plan is that you will only have 97 hit rating (38 from Wiodin’s neck and 59 from Ashen Verdict Ring). That, with the basic ALL AP gems, you will be under the so needed hit cap… So it’s either you socket Hit gems, either youre missing Chest Item from youre plan should defenetly have Hit on equip
Comment by Neves — February 6, 2010 @ 10:49 am
what are you thoughts on the trinket, “mark of supremacy”. It’s a triumph badge trinket and provides a boatload of hit, as well as 1000ap+ on demand (on use). I realize it doesn’t have the crit of whispering fang skull (which i have as well), but how viable do you consider it? also, you can get it easily
Comment by dafttastic — February 8, 2010 @ 8:05 am
#24. You forgot about the +28 hit rating he gets from using titanium weapon chain.
Comment by Scrapbot — February 17, 2010 @ 6:38 am
Nope we didnt.
Its 38 from Wodin’s Lucky Neck + 28 for titanium weapon chain + 59 from Ashen Verdict (exalted) = 125 hit rating = 3,75%.
1,25% missing
I guess he will chose a pve chest with hit.
Comment by Weeh — February 25, 2010 @ 8:47 am
Well, he is just gemin 2×40 hit rating.
Comment by Weeh — February 25, 2010 @ 9:11 am
Ashen Band of Endless Vengeance: 59 Hit
Wodin’s Lucky Necklace: 38 Hit
Gems: +40 Hit
Titanium Weapon Chain: +28
_____
59+28+40+38= 165 Rating or 5.03%
TaDaaaah!

I was wondering what your guys opinion is on what specc the next patch might be heading to. Do you think Mutilate will still be the spec to go, or do you think something else is coming?
I want to spend some more arenapoints on new weapons and i was wondering if it makes sense to already buy 2 fist weapons for example. I would really appreciate any suggestions on which weapons (besides the dagger that i already got) would make sense.
(Excuse my english, i’m not a native american/british)
Comment by pipibibi — March 6, 2010 @ 4:36 am
another alternative if you need Hit for perhaps a beginner player would be the titan forge shoulders from WG 60hit i think they give so pretty good early on until u can get something better
