Experiences Making the Video

So we’re in the final stage before this is released right now (I know I’ve said similar things in the past, but finally I can say it with confidence. Video should be out this weekend or early next week). This is easily the most work I’ve ever put into a PvP video, and that isn’t including all the work that Bizzlesnaff has done. I guess even in the climate of WOTLK, where arena is considered by many to be the only real PvP, I’ve always wanted to make the best world PvP / dueling video I could, showing what I can do while having quality content and strong editing.
At first I thought about making this about a 15 minute video of only the very best clips I had. Problem with this was that I ended up with 40 minutes of content I liked.
I also thought about making this only about the PvP with almost no editing. This is now the opposite, because along the way I changed my mind. At about the time when I was going to start looking for editors to help me out because I’m terrible with Machinima, Bizzlesnaff happened to come back and expressed interest in getting involved in some kind of project. For the last few months I’ve been corresponding with him, trying to give feedback while he’s worked on some pretty badass stuff for the video. I really gained a lot of appreciation for the amount of time that goes into videos like this or this in that it can easily take hours to finish a few seconds of a polished scene.
I had a lot of fun making this video, had a chance to have some really interesting and intense duels with a lot of top PvPr’s. With things almost finished this is the last time I’m going to talk about it before the video is released in the coming weeks, I promise.
So I guess most people don’t know what I’ve been up to the past few months, as I’ve had people wondering if I quit, where I play, etc. So here’s my story…
Since S6…
I started season six, before this past summer, playing in 3s with Aeias and Massive (on his alt, Deadly Glad priest). We were about 2600 and 9th on rampage (when it was still a competitive battlegroup) after about 3 weeks of playing, and moving in the right direction. Aeias had some things come up and couldn’t play anymore, so this put an end to that team. I ended up working for the summer part time at a place called Playdium, which I’m mentioning for those of you from the GTA. On a side note, it was a pretty out of place job for me, but in this economy there isn’t exactly many options for student jobs, you have to take what you can get. I also moved back home with my parents during the summer, so I was playing pretty casually. Without a serious 3s team, I didn’t have much reason to log on. The only thing I really did during this time that was WoW related was steadily work on Eviscerate X.
I transferred to Blackrock to with the intention of making a team with Neurological and Ely (formerly the priest of Gravitas Gaming) but it didn’t work out, due in no small part to the fact that Neurological is a fucking strange fellow. So after that brief, failed attempt at a team for a couple of weeks, I went back to playing casual and working on the video while still looking for a team. Now for me, if I’m going to play 3s and take arena seriously, I really want the right team. One that will push for the top and work together to improve; a team with the potential to be as good as anyone else. In my opinion, if I’m not playing with this kind of team, arena isn’t worth the hassle or frustration.
Moving along with this little story, I saw that EG was looking for a rogue, so I briefly tried playing with them, trying out a couple of times. This isn’t a big deal for me, but Azael went about recruiting for his team in a fairly peculiar way from my perspective. I knew that at least myself, Perplexity, Sycth, Litreacola, Smatin, as well as other rogues were playing with them, but other than with Sycth, they played very few games with each of us before settling on Smatin only weeks before the tournament. This seems to be the opposite of a successful attitude when you compare against the best rmp in the world, Button Bashers, who play thousands of games in practice, and the difference clearly shows. I would speculate this had to do with Kollectiv’s lack of attention to arena at the time, which lead to him being replaced by Tenderloin. I’m also pretty sure they went with the rogue Smatin because Tenderloin played with him, over stronger rogues (myself not included, but I feel the other rogues vying for the spot were much stronger than Smatin). Anyway, its not really my business, but this was my perspective on this matter and I don’t think the way EG handled recruitment was the formula for success. That being said, Azael is a great warlock, and I think picking up Pookz to run wizard cleave was a good decision, so I’ll conclude this tangent on that note.
Anyway, after this I’ve been floating around with a few different teams playing rmp. Aeias just came back and I convinced him to transfer to Blackrock. We’ve started playing rmp a little, but we’re still looking for the right priest at the moment. I’ve also just started playing a bit of RRP with Fuzion and Euneek and the comp is pretty fun and has given me a different perspective on cleave. It’s taken me a while but I finally almost have updated PvP gear, just in time for it to all get replaced in a few weeks. The good news here is with the way 3.3 gear looks I have some pretty solid gear plans, which I’ll talk about in the near future.
I had to pay for this semester out of my pocket so between school pressure, commuting for an hour+ each way on the bus to work and back at midnight, and trying to squeeze my life in, as well as working on the video, I haven’t had much time for the site. I no longer need to work and with 3.3 and the video finished, my interest has come back a bit, so we’ll see how things go from here.

first, I’m glad you didn’t quit(I had that thought in my head for a few weeks). and I can’t tell you how excited I am to hear that the video is coming in the next few days, I’m sure that it will be one of the most memorable videos in WCM.
and regarding being busy and all, just fuck it mate, your life is more important than just a mere game, it’s fun and challenging and all, but it’s still something you’re going to eventually quit sooner or later (1 year? 2 years? 5 years? you’re gonna live much longer than that, i hope :p), just focus on your life, school, and wow comes second, or at least that’s what I think :p
PS: where is Nition? did you kill him?!

Seriously RPP is very fun to play with! I’ve finally managed to get 2.2k with RPP and I could say we got boosted abit with the setup and paladin
It’s very strong, and we used Prot paladin instead of ret, because of those TSG teams running around 2k so much, farmed them much and got my 2.2k ^^ Hopefully you’ll find a good priest and nice to have one of the greatest rogues back in the game

Hey great to see you back!! I know it can be hard to find the right team and I feel your struggle. Hope you and Aeias can find a priest but the two of you together in 2’s is also very entertaining to watch. Love the new site and can’t wait for your vid!!

Hey man, nice to see u back and the movie looks seems rlly awesome as well. Im experianced with that kinda lifestyle uve gone through now, not having much time left for other things n such. I know it seems a bit of the side, but watch your videos every week, the music and everything, its nice that your different from other rogues. (and wow vids in general with the screaming music which is also ok.)

Glad to have you back Akrios! I’ve also been trying to play WoW and still have good grades at the exams, just hang in there, Christmas vacations are coming!!

I’m really hoping that the above picture indicates some Bloodfang pvp haha.
Also, with the awesome new site design I remembered something from many months ago. Did you ever end up holding that contest for the RogueRogue.com t-shirts? They were very bad ass and a chance to win one would’ve been wicked.
I imagine that the video was delayed until now because of exam week. Anyway, enjoy your time off of school.

Try the Priest named Trisenox on Jubei’thos – see if you can get him to come to Blackrock if he still plays. Hes a bit of a bastard, but a brilliant priest. We got 2.3k easy before I quit playing. He’s incredible in his switches from Aggressive to Defensive.

Hey akrios good to see u back again. I spent about 4 hours the other day on doing various tests with recount messing around with the new envenom spec. Anyway i came to the conclusion that using 2 1.80’s with DP MH and wound OH is putting out the same amount of dmg as using a 1.40 OH with DP OH and wound MH, accept while using double 1.80’s and DP MH setup u gain anywhere from 3-7 seconds on stacking DP to the max. Now the only difference in dmg between the two setups is that, with the 1.40 OH setup u gain a a few wound procs, but with the double 1.80’s i gained a substantial amount overall melee dmg, and yes i know what shiv is for lol, but when i can use the double 1.80 setup and get 5dp stacks on my target in an average of 3-5 sec without having to shiv why use 1.40’s? just thought i would throw this out their being that arena points aren’t free. and i really whant to make the right choice when buying my relentless weapons. and BTW u the man love your vids, keep it up man.

Definitely an under-rated rogue in the competitive scene. Akrios has shown great aspiration get to where he wants to be.
As with many rogue players over the past few years, I’ve came from being a keyturning noob, to binding every ability – regardless of what class I play. Practicing all the time, gained around 60k kills in the last 12 months on my 80 rogue and 70 twink rogue. I’ve learned so much from watching Akrios’ vids and even going off and finding things out for myself. Many times I thought I pretty much reached my peak then suddenly realizing I’m just another number – of the thousands of competitive WoW players.
I need to see what others think about “where WoW is heading – How long WoW will be around for” (in terms of being an E-sport), to give me an incentive to spend time and make a complete video of How to play a rogue. From the basics and keybinding, right through to macros and tactics. And like Akrios with Evis X, If i make a proper guide, it will be thorough. I may not compete in 80 arenas anymore, but I have the knowledge to make one.
I have not seen a video guide like that for any class. So even if I don’t make one personally, it would be a great asset for the rogue community to have something like that available. Just a LOT of time, effort and frustration, especially to go through in great detail.
But anyway, I can not wait for Eviscerate X. It will be great!

I grew up in Brampton and live in Toronto now, I’ve been there and feel the pain of working through school
