The following is my first WOTLK pvp video. Although arena (and pvp as a whole) is far from balanced, I decided to record when I had some time during the first few weeks of the season. Notes on the Video Content
Rogue duels – I picked a couple of interesting opener-recoveries against pooklexity and unmercy, both of whom are proficient at dueling. If you’re wondering what I’m trinketing against unmercy, he is garroting without breaking sap.
Death Knight – This duel is meant to demonstrate the way to beat a deathknight in a 1v1 arena situation using pillars. By being patient and taking it slow, this fight is winnable against even the best deathknights, and Golbeza (top 10 in 3 brackets, betrayer of humanity) is about as tough as they get.
Paladin – Another difficult fight in wotlk with instant flashes and the huge range on judgment. I picked this fight because it was close and interesting.
Arena – I chose a bunch of clips from the first few weeks of 2v2. I’m playing with Aeias, one of the best wow players I’ve met to date, and we’ve gotten as high as 2100. The setup remains strong although it requires a lot of effort and patience, and the only hard counter we’ve found thus far is BM hunter teams. Once arena becomes balanced again things should become better because rogue / mage really excels against dps / healer teams, particularly warrior teams.
I included a few 3v3 clips I thought were interested from a day when I was messing around with holy priest / ret paladin / rogue. I’m well aware that the bop and trinket was a mistake due to poor communication, but it was a close fight so I left it in.
Spec - is standard mutilate prep (see our spec page) and I opt to put 2 points in heightened senses, dropping one in find weakness.

Considering DK duel I think it was completely ridiculous considering
everything that such high end rogue has to do to win. Would you agree
that if, in arena battle, he had Shadow Sight you wouldn’t win?
Great execution in strategy though.

Great movie.
I don’t know why people are asking for your key bindings, I don’t think that should matter. (i.e. bind everything to the keys you find most comfortable, someone else s bindings won’t work nearly as well as your own)

I am curious though.
So I am in the 1900’s working onto 2000’s with a ret pally, and it’s easy to vanish the majority of the stuff (frostbolt, fireball,shadowbolt etc.) however how is that you pro rogues vanish instant casts? I usually blow my trinket on a blind when I duel rogues, but my health drops really fast during the cheapshot and kidney shot due to double cold blood. And what did you mean “I’m trinketing against unmercy, he is garroting without breaking sap.”?

Great video. Can you explain what you guys do specifically against Holy/DK? Maybe talk a bit about your rotation (take that with a grain of salt) on the pally. When to get him to freedom, etc.

thanks for the comments guys, my bindings are listed on the site somewhere for those asking, the only ones not listed are alt+a for FoK and shift+a for ToT, also shift+4 is my focus blind for arena
In regards to the dk duel, i would just mount up and kite the shadow site
prodigy vanish insta cast= vanish in reaction to trinket or blind in reaction to it, garroting without breaking sap = same as cs without breaking sap
against holy dk we try for a sap on dk(not always possible) then open on pally, force bubble, recover, mage cc’s dk a lot and force a trinket into blind. Kite out the bubble and save cloak for it. Other than that you have to play it by ear

Thanks Akrios. My friend and I are dueling and practicing the vanish (spamnish) tactic. It’s pretty easy once you get used to it. Also, I was just wondering when you were on Gurubashi, do you remember Duckhole the troll rogue?

When you are about to cs, turn away so the cs still hits but you won’t white hit. Same with garrote..and all the other spells that don’t do application damage.

You get absolutely carried by Aeias, I know this for a fact and your video pretty much proves it. I hate to say, but this is probably the worst video you’ve released in a while. At least it beats most of the quality being pumped out these days. GL, your partner definitely has what it takes to be #1 on Rampage.

Well that duel with the deathknight proved me correct that the video is shit and didnt continue seeing it.Well that dk uses only once runetap at 3.40min {a cd that he gots it every 30secs, right?}.Also never seen him uses mark of blood on u (noob dk).And u fail as rogue cause at 3,30min he is on 30% with ks on him and already 1/4 or 2/4 bones of the boneshield wear off cause of your mutilate and u dont just dismantle him and finish him there,but u prefer to run away :S.Well seriously thats either a duel that is organized to loose the dk or u just got a dk that doesnt know his cds and he is just pve geared.GJ u are just an ordinary rogue that always gots pve gear to support him in pvp,and cause of 1 talent u are so op against casters.Nothing else to say i just w8 someone to answer to that comment and tell me seriously if that dk as unholy specced could loose.

But i have a question to ask, I us coldblood alot was wondering if u have ever used coldblood+mut in ur duels and such? i been told coldblood+mut shouldnt be used in pvp on if i were to be raiding or instances, but, I disagree with him what do u think?

Coldblood+mut, it is great to use in pvp. Whoever told you its not, that person is a complete retard. If you dont have enough energy to mut with CB and the target is almost dead and you have 5combo points then yes Evis+CB. If you can Mut+CB. DO IT!

In the duel vs the rogue that trys to sap+garrote. He uses Mut, Mut+CB. he just uses a macro that lets him cast CB and Mut instantly to get his crits instintly.

I see even Akrios has a tough time against DK’s. Fuck em. Anyhow I’m here to say nice job, yet again. I am 2v2ing with a Ret pally, and it’s been great. He is using a weird spec but it works. It’s like mut/prep except ret/prot all the way down to 30 second HoJ.

First off, nice site/video. This has become a great source to learn how to be better at playing rogue. When I watch rogue viddys I tend to pause/play a lot to watch every subtle move the player makes, and learn his style.
I have a question about your opening duel with Pooklexity.
You start out w/ a CS on him. It looks like he attempts to Trinket->Blind you. You vanished at the same time he did this. However, I saw Pooklexity’s blind go off, but it didn’t appear to stick on you. At this moment, Pooklexity vanishes at the same time you cast blind. Again, I see your blind go off as Pooklexity disappears. It looked like the same thing happened, but instead your blind stuck, and Pooklexity reappears affected by Blind. Why?
Is there something I’m missing here? Pooklexity’s blind should have stuck (unless it flat out missed). It seems he got screwed out of his victory by Blizzard’s crappy net code. It seems a lot of rogue fights come down to who Blizzard declares the faster button pusher (which is usually determined by ping).
Are there more conservative openers to employ on another rogue that doesn’t rely on blinding them thru their vanish? I have started toying around with dismantle -> rupture -> vanish. The dismantle prevents them knocking me out w/ fan of knives, and the bleed keeps them out of stealth.. allowing me to regain energy while they take some damage over time before I reopen.
Rogue vs Rogue just feels very finicky as of late.

Brilliant Video. I recently rerolled to rogue from a mage I have played since pre bc and was my only 60, 70, and 80 for a time. After the buffs to arcane, and the mindnumbingly boring game play/dominance as arcane, mages seem to have lost alot of their “fun and skill” when it comes to kiting or just smart pvp in general. Anyways, I love your videos! There very clean cut and well done. I would be a much more awful rogue if I hadnt stumbled upon your website! Thanks!
