Where to level in Wotlk, Leveling on Cho’gall

posted by Nition on November 14th, 2008

Where to begin in WoTLK

First I would like to recommend an add-on called Carbonite. It’s a quest helper that will make your life 20 times easier if you’re someone like me who hates leveling. I prefer this over Quest Helper. The first thing about leveling if you haven’t started off yet is to really complete every quest in the first couple zones. I suggest going to Borean Tundra first as the quests give more Xp. Either way, the choice is yours and there are plenty of quests to push you through a couple of levels. From there you can head to Dragon’s Blight. For you lore lovers, If there is any quest chain to do on your way to 80 (that also ends up being quite a bit of xp at the end of the chain) make sure to do The Kor’kron Vanguard (read the comments to find out how to do the full quest line). Not only do you get an achievement but a very nice cutscene. That last link is a spoiler but shouldn’t be missed in case you never do or plan on doing the quest. At a minimum of 73 you can head from DB to Grizzly Hills and go from there.

Leveling on Cho’gall

Thanks to Nagayoshi for this other pic

"If it’s red it’s dead" is the guild motto and we’re having a lot of fun with that. Thanks to all the people I’ve killed and those who have 2 shotted me with your Thori’dal, the Stars’ Fury. If the 60 total Alliance on Cho’gall see any members of Incursus feel free to kill them. The first night here was pretty bad with over an hour que at one point to log on, but it has seemed to go down a bit. I’m sure it hasn’t hurt that they have also opened Free Realm Transfers off of Cho’gall,  which will be running up until Thursday, November 20 at 4:00PM PST.

Waiting in Line

I’m sure some, well probably a lot of you, went and stood in line at midnight to get your copy. Other than the fact that almost every Gamestop in America had to call in each and every credit card it was ok. There were about 75-100 people waiting when I got there but nothing too interesting. On the other hand, when you look like an elite assasin like Akrios people notice you!Post if you had anything funny/interesting happen while you were waiting in line.

  4. hey again mate,
you seem to be leveling as mutilate, any ideas/thoughts ?
I’m trying HfB atm, and mobs die in cheap shot (i have dagger of bad mojo & the mutilator) if not i just eviscerate them and move on.. the only thing i hate is re-stacking HfB over and over when it expires while mounting sometimes and the fact that i never benefit from CttC, i feel like i spent 5 talent points on nothing.
I’m using double would poison and it does more dps than my eviscerate according to my recount. The reason i use wound poison insteat of instant poison is that it has more proc chance (makes up for the lower dmg ) which allows me to mutilate immediately.
I’m going to try my “dream spec” tonight 41/rest/21 mutilate / prep and see if there is any difference.. with dirty deeds and over kill, i will probably have the chance to CS > Mut > Mut > Evsc during the cheap shot.
    so what about you ?

about the waiting in the line
I didn’t ! my roommate pre-ordered it and since he’s busy the next few weeks with his exams (math major nerd <— say whaaaaaaat ?), he gave it to me <3

  6. 4> Wound poison? Why?

  7. So. Any idea what the hit/expertise caps and optimal PvE gemming are? I’m assuming 237 hit for poisons (with misery) and.. then expertise to cap it out.. the Agi? I plan to raid combat swords (MAYBE honor among thieves if it’s hot)

  8. @ 6 : I explained that in my post, but since I’ve been busy the last 2 days I wasn’t able to actually test it using recount over a long period of grinding. but I would use wound over instant any time because it procs more often (50% chance on hit) which allows me to mutilate immediately after cheap shot instead of waiting for instant poison to proc (30% chance on hit)

  9. Kiba,
I’m leveling up muti as well. First off, no matter what build, you should be using deadly in at least one hand due to envenom. With alot of T6, shard of azzinoth, and the new arena blue from northrend, my 5pt 5dp stack envenoms are critting for about 5k. No armor mitigation means tons of damage.

Me personally, most mobs die with 2 muties followed by an envenom, depending on my crits. I personally level with double deadly poison just to help push my envenom damage since i’m able to burst down most mobs in about 5-10 seconds.

You should definately be using deadly imo because muti gets 50% more damage when the mob is poisoned, and the more deadly procs you get the more your envenoms are gonna hit for. And if you picked up the master poisoner talent, you get 3% more crit when the mob is poisoned as well.

Slice and dice, hunger for blood, I dont use them to be honest, stuff dies too quick and they cause more downtime than up. When mobs die in 5-10 seconds, its not worth it imo. Unless its an elite, I dont touch them.

Now, the above info isn’t for raiding, just my findings with my gear level for leveling up. Most of my damage is coming from mutilate and envenom, so to summarize, I go with double deadly and ignore SnD/HfB unless its an elite or multiple mobs at once. If elite, raid rotation. If not, 2muti+env usually gets the kill.

  10. sorry but i have way far inferior gear compared to you (ZA dagger + the Mutilator and rest is veng/brutal) and mobs die before cheap shot wears off ..
with 2/2 dirty deeds and overkill, cheap shot costs only 30 energy, which means you can CS > Mutilate > Eviscerate in 3 GCDs (rogue’s GCD is 1 sec) and you have an extra sec to mutilate once more if the mob isn’t dead. there is no way you are able to build 5 stacks of deadly poison in less than 4 secs .. unless you use double deadly poison and have 5/5 in imp poisons which is imo a waste of talent points.
but hey ,, you play for fun ! and who wouldn’t want to see a 5k crit every now and then ? and btw im lvl 73 and my Eviscerate crits for 4k if the mob is below 35% (which is always the case after a mutilate crit).
and btw, you can solo elites 1 – 2 lvls higher than you easily, i was doing that in dragon blight the other day and each kill awarded me around 14k exp ! i was rested though, but still was nice boost, i haven’t lvled in 3 days, busy with collage work, i cant wait to get back lvling with half bar rested ^^

  14. Just wondering, how to lvl fast? Shall you go many instances or just do quests? Cuz when you have done like 10-15 quests youre kinda bored. So just wonder how should i make fast exp.

  15. @maka

ey i just reccommend that you quest for a decent amount of time.
or however long it takes you to get bored.
then simply just que for an instance(preferably an instance you have quests for or can get quests for)
then start to quest again until you get a full grp and can actually do the instance this way you arent wasting time.

  18. What about Glyph of Ghostly Strike for PVP?
Pros: 40% more damage, a longer duration (4 sec).
Cons: A longer cooldown (10 sec).

My opinion is that it’s really nice for any PvP spec with Ghostly Strike and 2/2 Elusiveness.

  20. @ Kiba

You are using cheap shot as an opener. When I was leveling up I just opened right away with 2x muti for 3-5 cps, then finishing them off with an env. And yes, you can build a 4-5 dp stack in about 4 seconds if you use double deadly. 4-5 seconds depending on weapon speed and haste is about 4 autoattacks, and 2 muties are 4 more attacks. 8 attacks in muti spex should net you a fair amount of procs. Yes, I found myself env with only a 4 stack a good amount of time, but I also found that I only got 4 cps a good amount of the time as well, due to my crit being lowered every level since my gear didn’t change.
