Duels vs. Neilyo
In spite of the fact that I wasn’t sure if I would post this, I decided to because I thought it was pretty entertaining and that there hasn’t been much to discuss/post since the end of season 4. This is a selection from some duels I had against neilyo a few weeks ago, patch 3.0, no dismantle used. Although I’m not sure of the record (too many duels) I will say that he had the upper hand in terms of the ratio of duels won while being opened on and I give him the edge in terms of rogue v rogue.

I really haven’t taken rogue vs. rogue seriously until recently. I used to feel that it was almost completely based on the opener and maybe some luck, but I’ve changed my mind. While the opener gives a big advantage, if the person being opened on has prep, the fight goes a lot deeper.
Vanishing blinds is a huge reality; it equates to a guessing game coupled with reaction time scenario (guessing the person will trinket –> blind or trinket–> vanish, which isn’t much of a guess because if they don’t they’ll be reopened on without a trinket. Reaction comes in response to the other player’s trinket). There’s also the threat of being blinded out of vanish, wherein one rogue tries to vanish a blind but instead is blinded out because the rogue blinding hesitates very slightly on purpose. Another thing you’ll see here is blinding a blind, which is used in reaction to a rogue trinket –> blinding, and the rogue being blinded reacting with blind. (I realize this paragraph may be confusing).
I was opening as mutilate and being opened on as prep because if you’re being opened on without prep you have a very slim chance of winning, even if you were to vanish the blind. I’m more experienced with mutilate but I’ve got a pretty good handle on how to try to respond with prep.
Anyway, hopefully you enjoy the video, and don’t over-think it.
New Guild, <INCURSUS> now Recruiting
Although I’m well aware that the vast majority of the people who read this site are rogues and that is the class the we need least by far, I thought I’d post this here anyway.
We’re starting a new guild for WOTLK on cho’gall. This guild will raid 3 days a week and look to progress through endgame quickly without an overly intensive raid schedule. These will be 25 man raids.
The guild is starting with a core of about 20 players that have known each other for several years and have or will be transferring to Cho’gall. The server itself has a very strong horde population.
We keep things pretty light and love to pvp. We’re looking for members who can relax most of the time but know when to get serious during raids. If you’re a competant player that wants to be rewarded fairly for effort and commitment, check us out.
As far as class need goes, we are in most need of healers, tanks, and warlocks, althought we still are looking to fill out many of the other positions. Even if you’re class wasn’t just mentioned, feel free to apply at
http://incursusguild.com/recruitment/
where you can find rules and more information.
WOTLK this Week
Just a reminder in case you’re hiding under a rock somewhere, WOTLK is coming out this week. Roguerogue.com will keep you up to date on the latest developments for our class in the new expansion.

Awesome rogue duels Akrios.
All the possibilities regarding Vanish and Blind make rogue duels very dynamic and I find it’s the ability to adapt to the dynamic nature of the class that separates the truly great rogues from the good ones.
And that is why I enjoy watching your rogue videos.

Honestly I would have preferred to see duels with dismantle used, since ones where you ignore class skills have always seemed a little irrelevant to me.
Regardless, an excellent watch as per usual.

Akrios, i so much like that you kicked Neilyos arse a couple of times.. i just cant stand his arrogance and screaming lol and whatsoever! That movie was legendary.
Cheers mate
Comment by Dudee — November 11, 2008 @ 6:21 pm
that first duel was so funny, he had you at 3 HP maybe, and fully bleeding, and i realized you weren’t dying for some reason, and then you showed your buffs, and saw that you used the SSC trinket, made me realize what was about to happen to neilyo lol. that sucks to get that close and lose =[.
by the way, what are you thoughts on herbalism combined with PvP (obviously throwing herbs isn’t going to do anything, but the move lifeblood or whatever it’s called that comes with herbalism now).
Comment by elanti — November 11, 2008 @ 7:30 pm
Probably the only rogue with 10+ movies that arnt the Same over and over again, ALWAYS fun to watch, Zomg Mut ftw

Anyways I see Mahiko ditched Incursis for scripted pvp. Can I take his place? <3 I’ll be online once the servers come up. God damn maintenance is being pushed back for like 5 hours…

[...] Akrios of roguerogue.com released a series of duels of him against Neilyo-kun in 3.0. For whatever reason dismantle was banned from the series (which may give the player with opener too big of an advantage, but I still believe it should be included to show off the full rogue arsenal), and Akrios played a mix of mutilate and prep, while Neilyo was prep/hemo the entire time. aerilfirth, are you trying to imply he’s bad or something? is that supposed to be an insult? I don’t get it, he’s obviously amazing judging by this vid, not neilyo level (neilyo isnt human) but def a top quality rogue

Sup bro, great duels. This may sound a bit critical or even as if I’m lecturing you, just keep in mind that this is a reflection. Recently I’ve been playing different characters and haven’t been on my rogue that often, yet I’ve been keeping up with all the action ^^. Some of the shit I’m about to say may be wrong, rogue v rogue duels are extremely diverse and although there are certain known methods used commonly to win, depending on your opponents actions and how quickly you’re able to react to it can throw off the whole “cookie cutter” scenario quite easily.
First duel- neilyo didn’t run away- akrios only one because of mut buffs.
Second duel- May want to consider vanishing rather than wasting your blind, either way it’s to your disadvantage when dueling a rogue such as himself. Vanishing off his blind would be a better alternative than using your blind early as a defensive, it’s hard to call though. You did a good job of catching him after his second vanish, but his momentum at the beginning made you use your cd’s defensively thus hurting you later on.
Third duel- started off by making him waste his trinket/blind, which he trades for your only vanish. Then your blind missed which sucked, in that case you would have won there, still managed to get a lucky ks off however haha, either way though; if your blind landed you would have finished that.
Fourth duel- He opened, you trade your vanish for his blind, and traded simultaneous vanishes in an attempt to re gain control of the fight, yours misses though. Why did you ks there? You may as well have got down on your knees and said a prayer while you were at it. After he trinketed your blind it was pretty much evasion shiv spam with his benefit from the bit of rng you faced at the beginning.
Fifth duel- He opens with his standard and you let him, interesting, but I guess when you’re dueling a rogue 15 times over and over you got to switch something up once in a while. At this point he has an amazing start to the duel, which can be extremely hard to recover from. You blind him offensively, and he forces you to try at a desperate quick vanish opener attempt which is easily evaded by him as he backs away and re cs’ you. He than threw a random ks which baffles me and ultimately loses because of it. You trinket his blind and go on to win the mindless evasion shiv spam battle in the end.
Sixth duel- His opener again, garrote into a ks forcing your trinket and a landing blind forcing his trinket into a vanish as well. Due to the essence of his opener you’re left bleeding after the vanish and have nothing more than a two second period to spam cs for an open which is further mitigated by his overlapping vanish. You get a quick vanish off and re gain control for a full stunlock, but once again due to the momentum he sustained throughout the beginning portion of the duel (even using a different opening sequence) he was still left him with the leading edge when it came down to the usual ending shiv spam.
Seventh duel- he vanishes your blind on a mutilate opener than proceeds to dance around you with his second set of cd’s including another evasion, making it a virtual impossibility of getting a KS off with your spec.
Eighth duel- You gouge his trinket which is GG wtfpwned, full SL, blind and repeat. Neilyo must have been pulling his hair out through that entire 20+ seconds of helplessly getting shit on. At this point by the way I haven’t even watched the full duel, I’m just assuming the rest to be what I think is logically going to happen lolol… -I just continued watching, and what….Was that? Are you playing with him? Finish it, he blew his trinket without any offensive action. KS re blind, sap… wait DR and gg. You went on to win, but you could have done it flawlessly due to his HUGE error at the start.
Once again no harsh feelings man, but he pretty much outplayed you in the majority of those duels with only a few exceptions. As a shadowstep rogue going into 3.0 and facing a mutilate rogue you have to keep in mind that: A, the mutilate rogue will always be given the opener in all fairness, and B. the mutilate rogue will shit on any mistake you make, dramatizing as if it were your last and only. Although even on an opener a shs rogue can vitalize their cd’s to reverse the fight effectively, mutilate is buffed to the point where a full energy KS can easily 100-0 a geared cheat death rogue for that matter. You admit in your description that he has more knowledge in this scene and I respect that. He studies this shit like it’s his job, and he’s very quick as you damn well know from these duels alone. Another entertaining vid akrios, keep it up and hope to see you in wotlk

Just wanted to mention that I find myself using Evicerate alot on mobs and in PvP purely for the fact that Rupture isnt gonna kill them right away.
Can someone give me some feedback cause Im not sure if I should be putting my points into Imp Evicerate +20% or the +30% rupture/garrote damage.
The balance in damage is deffinatly tipped towards rupture and garrote as not only does it affect 2 abilities it is a greater increase. But this seems to be pointless because I don’t use Rupture very much. This is due to the fact that after my 2 stuns the person has almost no health left anyways, thus making a rupture a waste.
Maybe someone with experience can give me some imput on what I should do.
Thanks
P.S. One interesting tidbit is that when Evicerate crits it is awsome. With the new Glyph +10% crit on Evicerate I can crank out about 2.5k damage and that is much superior to a rupture (5 point of course). Now I have about 36.5% crit chance and +10% is almost 50% which is a very good chance.
Unfortunatly if it doesnt crit your kinda in trouble because its only like 1.2-1.5k
SOOOOOO…..

You can vanish out of cc / blind?????
OMG
Comment by Heretic — November 14, 2008 @ 9:53 am
@Hopesfallen , that was purely luck and yea, ppl like u go “WOW” on moves like that, beating neilyo with 1% (healing trinket lol? who uses that anyway) and after 3,0 on 70 a muti rog can basicly kill anyone in a full KS and
u run neilyo didnt:)
but a great video rly, good music, always love the quality ur providing, (what do you render as in vegas?) and now you can see some skills from your side rather than ur prev movies
