Working on Eviscerate 9, SUGGESTIONS WANTED

posted by Akrios on September 23rd, 2008

Since the beginning of September I’ve started working on another world pvp video. For a while I didn’t think finishing before the expansion would be possible. Trying to get world pvp clips is a lot like fishing, you basically float around the lake hoping for the stars to align.

You could get 3 usable clips in an hour or you could get none for 3 weeks. Even when you do get in that situation and feel like you’re about to catch that perfect clip, you’ll be in the middle of an intense fight and get randomly ambushed by another fish for 3000. (I’ll drop the terrible fishing anology here before it gets any worse)The other thing that comprimises half of the clips is horde running in and helping, despite any disuading /say macros, or you know, sense of personal dignity in pvp.

But all that being said, I’ve gotten enough world pvp clips that I’ll probably be able to finish before WOTLK. The world pvp content is by far the hardest part to collect, after which duels are a lot easier to come by. I really start to understand the lack of world pvp videos because the work involved in comparisson to any other type of pvp video isn’t even similar. It’s an excerise in frustration and patience.

Suggestions and Ideas Appreciated

The other reason I’m making this post other than to whine is to look for some advice.

If you could leave any suggestions for content in a comment here it would be appreciated. I may not use any of the advice but I might use all of it, who knows. I’d love some music suggestions as well, because even if it’s songs i don’t end up using it’s always fun to hear new music.

Just some notes:

- I doubt this video will be as "story driven" as my last one. This isn’t really decided yet but I’m thinking that I’ll somehow concretely tie in to my last video, but i’m really not sure yet

- Dueling. I know this has it’s limitations, especially as mutilate, some top levels players are unbeatable. That being said, any suggestions as to what to do for this would be helpful.

On the same note, if anyone has any interesting dueling locations to suggest that would be appreciated.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Expect the vid about mid October barring the unforeseen.

  1. Hey Akrios. Been a long time follower of your videos. Have learned many things from watching them and they are always enjoyable. As far as new music, I know a lot of good songs from RPGs that will never make it anywhere outside of Japan that would sound pretty cool in a PvP video. If you want a list just let me know and I’ll cook one up for you.

  2. Yo, regarding areas to duel, places in azsara like fallen temples are always good, or under orgrimmar! The Dun Morough lake is also pretty nice.

  3. Maybe try using a differnet spec in duels to mix it up, i dunno..

  6. Sir,

This most likely won’t be helpful, but:

The most enjoyable thing about your movies for me as a freshly-dinged 1545 rogue is watching you duel our tougher opponents — warriors, disc priests etc., etc. Not only that, but using a spec that strips us of our prized mobility (or at least some of it). This is selfish of me in that respect — I am stealing all your ideas!

I also admire how you show the times you lose, and the excellent music.

So: combine duels with tough, well-geared opponents with some playful-ness and your musical taste and you can’t lose. So Eviscerate 8 again please – lol.

  7. Love your vids, learned a lot form it and sure I’ll keep learning from them.

This might sound somewhat noobish (just rolled rogue class) or uninteresting for some, but would you mind making a clip of a reliable stunlock/silence cycle for as long as possible while using vanish and so. If possible the random aspect of the pvp trinket pop and the counter.
Mostly to lock down a druid while his partner is getting ganked

Guess there is little you can do when RNG comes around the corner in most cases.

With or without the stunlock cycle, sure I’m gonna love Eviscerate 9
Good luck on finding suitable clips!

  8. hi there
we’ve already seen eviscerate 7 and 8 .. and the duels were awesome ..
imo more duels or more world pvp won’t add THAT much to your video..
i think if you add a few clips of 2v2 arena with Mutilate + something
like : mutilate + disc priest / frost mage / PoM mage / restokin / full balance druid/ enh shaman( yea zerg ftw)
and make sure that you show us how you deal with warrior teams without having ShS (nerf spamstring =_( )
im interested in seeing you lose as much as seeing you win .. we learn from you mate !
about the music : just do it like you always do ! i loved all the songs in your videos
PS : I WANNA SEE A DUEL WITH NITION !!!!!!111

  9. Hello, i was keen on your movies, but there could be more mutilate m8 :) maybe mixed with duels.
The only problem with sstep is that everyone in the “high-bracket” uses it. It became boring for me

    Comment by Phobia — September 24, 2008 @ 8:31 am

  10. Hey there,

Always been a big fan of your movies, besides being very good entertainment, they’re also very good to learn a few tricks.

World pvp is always great, especially 1vX where the odds are against you is always intense to watch.

Personally I’d keep arena clips to a minimum. 2v2 is good to see, but once you start watching 3v3 clips and 5v5 clips, it gets quite difficult to see what’s happening besides what the person in the movie is doing. Arena clips can get very interesting if you play an irregular comp ofcourse.

Duels are very interesting to see, both wins and losses, especially against “counter classes”, though I enjoy watching duels all the time.

Whatever you decide to put in your 9th Eviscerate movie, it’ll be just as good, that we all know!

P.S: and yeah, a duel with Nition is pretty much a zomgasm ;-)

    Comment by Coltraine — September 24, 2008 @ 8:42 am

  11. Hi there,

just like the others, I’ve seen your videos, and I learned a lot about the rogue tricks. IMO you’re the most skilled rogue, you play like a machine, simply perfect. I think it is what we need, if you show us your skill, it’s enough. But for suggestions, I think the world PvP is really hard to film, and IMO the duels against the top skilled players are more exciting than watch what the normal players do against you. But the first clip of the Evis. 8 was simply amazing, so if you want world PvP,1v3 would be great, even if it is really hard to film.

The dueling areas…? Hmmm,I think Shadowmoon Valley is a great place for them, but ypu know it.The only thing I can tell you about it, that Tanaris would be nice,in front of Caverns of Time,in Agramon II it was amazing, and a heroic duel would seem real unique.

Whatever you do,I’m sure it will be one of the best PvP videos, and even if I said world PvP isn’t too exciting, don’t give its filming up,the hard work always have great reward.

    Thanks for your time.

P.S.: I can just agree,Nition duel would be awsome, I think it’s in Tanaris would be nice…:)

    Comment by Ereptor — September 24, 2008 @ 9:24 am

  12. You know you could always turn this into a semi-instructional video with commentary, that would justify having more than 2 duels in a video.

As for dueling areas… people haven’t really dueled on top of those huge ‘needles’ in 1k needles, there’s a quest that brings you on top of one, or just find a village rooted on one. Maybe use some Shadowstep tricks there or w/e.

Engineering always spices up a video, so use it if you’ve got it.

  17. Mutilate duels are always fun to watch, especially against good players at cool locations. More flawless duels please, your last movie contained to many sloppy duels, diminshing returns misstakes trinketing wrong stuff (+) late etc (or auto attack to break the adamantite grenade incapacitation, pewew?) . It’s not very entertaining to watch you do those kinds of misstakes, more fun to watch if some1 gets you down to 1/5 and then you manage to turn the duel around and win like that 1v1 against that ally disc priest in your previous movie (crits are also pretty fun to watch lol :P ).

  18. Azshara near abouts where Azuregos floats is a wonderfull bright looking area, thats a must in my opinion there was FAR too much SMV in Evi8, its dark dingey and just ugly to watch bright colourfull and interesting scenery makes a great video astounding! Some areas such deep inside a Silithid burrow are amazingly textured too could make for some pretty awsome duel spots.

As for world pvp use more PVE gear and provide us simpletons with larger numbers!

  22. Duels I’d like to see:
    Emolol
    Triks
    Neilyo
    Rammyz
    Minizeke
    Vrai
    Noxe

Also, consider going shs for the ones you feel are too hard to beat otherwise. We’ve seen you play mutilate plenty and while it’s always a treat, breaking rank and taking on top pvpers will, as you’ve conceded, require you to go shs. Please consider. There are so many good players on Cho’gal, You could make an all dueling video and it’d be terrific.

  25. I believe you guys have a lot of the public viewing your videos. The best thing to do is to see how you guys have match ups. For your finial video I suggest taking each class for both you and Nition and see how you take them differently. Most of the people who watch your videos are rogues looking to better themselves. Besides that make it fun. Do some bg’s with nition and have you guys buff up like crazy and take out people left and right. Throw a lot of damage in there. Arenas would be okay but you have done enough. Just show us how you take each class then break it down afterwards do some fun shit.

  26. If you put in duels, you should respec shadowstep for them. More entertaining for duels anyways imho

    Comment by Jaidan — September 24, 2008 @ 5:59 pm

  27. To be completely honest, the ShS Glaive rogues you have dueled in the past have been really lackluster. Now, Im sure we are all aware of the fact that ShS vs Mut is severely in ShS favor, especially if the rogue isnt terrible (like the ones you dueled). I dont mean to insult your skill, because you are clearly a much better rogue than I will probably ever be. But Id leave those sorts of duels out. They didnt contribute to the videos at all other than the ‘Wow he beat a ShS Glaive rogue as 41/20′ and then after watching it 2-3 times we realize the glaive rogue was playing blind-folded, or with his feet.

  30. Heya… Just reading your recent post and i’d like suggest music, the order is in no special order, although the first one you MUST check out.[Listen to full song]

    ~ Trivium [They've changed, it's actually GOOD] – Throes of Perdition ( http://www.myspace.com/trivium )
~ In Flames – Pinball Map, or really ANY of their music. They play as a whole, my favorite band.
    ~ Dark Age – Zero (
    ~ SoilWork – Exile ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x60DdKy1GuY )
    ~ ParkWay Drive – Any of their music.. ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DScZ42PPIyo )
I have ALOT of bands that i listen to, you can email me if you want to chat sometime and get some more less heavy or similar bands. email me at x_headbang_x@yahoo.com, i’ve got.. all the messengers or i can come to you in your realm and talk if need be.

  32. Devour – Shinedown
    Sound of Madness – Shinedown
    Psychosocial – Slipknot
    Doomsday – Atreyu
    Composure – August Burns Red
    Chemicals – Chasing Victory
    Laydown – Priestess
    New Noise – Refused
    The Messenger – Thrice
Rage Against The Machine – Bullet In The Head

I think you should sort of follow the story line you laid out in Eviscerate 8 once Wrath comes out because of how you talked about leaving for Northrend when you finished with the tome. For the movie you’re working on now do some dueling in old world locale, like Silithus, The Plaguelands. Places no one features anymore to give it a pre-BC feel. To go along with what other people are saying about ganking in ally towns, you could have a story where you get a list of “hits” from the master of Ravenholdt and take them out in there own towns. I’m sure whatever you come up with will be entertaining, but I hope I’ve given you some ideas.

    Comment by Thanan — September 25, 2008 @ 4:51 pm

  33. Start off the movie by deleting thunderfury, then log out and delete your character for begin terrible. There is a reason most movies don’t have more then 1 sequel, and those that do ie halloween are terrible.

  35. Been watching you since the beginning of time bud. I’m sure you remember a rogue named grim, but in one of his vids he had a duel vs two rag wielding warriors. Perhaps a 2v1 against thoridal or some glaive rogues. U always win 1v1 so “if one is two easy, why not two?” right?

    Comment by gannann — September 25, 2008 @ 7:36 pm

  36. also, for music… im gonna try and list stuff perhaps a bit less “metal/metalcore” oriented, and to try and give the suggestions some more variation, unless there’s some metal song that i feel would be awesome.

    1. Conquest by White Stripes
    2. Piece by Piece by Strata (this is one of the more metal-ish songs, without screaming).
    3. Anything by Buckethead off of the album Electric Tears (just clean, beautiful guitar).
    4. The Difference Between Medicine and Poison is in the Dose by Circa Survive.
    5. Hell by Foo Fighters
    6. This is a metal song.. Milligram Smile by From Autumn to Ashes.
    7. Finished Symphony by Hybrid (or use the remix by Deadmau5, both are on iTunes).
    8. All Along the Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix
    9. Navras by Juno Reactor (HIGHLY recommend this, I think you might like this one a lot).
    10. Also, a really great opening song is Opening by Linkin Park. Don’t worry, this isn’t crap nu-metal, but pure instruments (it’s VERY pretty, a really great opening to your video).
    11. You used Metallica in your last video, here are 2 more songs by them that might work possibly.. Fade to Black (maybe), but Ride the Lightning more so.
    12. Glorious by Muse (pretty opening, and then heats up sort of, should definitely look at this, perhaps as a transition between parts of your video or something). The other muse song that needs a mention, and this might be even better for a video is Micro Cuts.
    13. You are by Pearl Jam (so many effects on this song, guitar is sooo cool, really good).
    14. Fasten your seatbelt by Pendulum (some good old DnB never hurt nobody).
    15. Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd (this song just is).
    16. Street Fighting Man by Rolling Stones (VERY good old school rock song, that just kicks ass, this is more of a song for you to just own, and maybe use in ur video lol).
    17. Another metal song.. Bloodwork by 36 crazy fists, or Felt Through a Phoneline by them as well.
    18. Last song, Blindness by Crunch (DL it from depthcore.com ((its a modern artistic site, not porn lol)) probably one of, it not my favorite trance song).

GL! if you wish for more, or more information, just say something on here.

  38. Can you explain in the vid why are you doing what you’re doing, a bit like acciddagger did in his last vid.

    Comment by John — September 27, 2008 @ 12:52 am

  39. I really like your use of different music in your videos. You have always made excellent choices for building atmosphere. No offense to the guys above, but the music they are suggesting is less appealling and used in nearly every PvP video.

Also, it should be noted that the Eviscerate videos are not Arena PvP. Akrios has been making a separate video for Arena PvP (the preview was released not long back).

I really enjoy seeing you crowd control other opponents while bursting down one. I prefer World PvP from World PvP objectives or battlegrounds – just because we know the opponents are often more difficult (ie, they have their PvP gear on). Watching your duels is always enjoyable, and I certainly would not mind if you wanted to include more.

Overall though, your own choices throughout the series have made for a strong succession of videos. Whatever you release, it will be of a high calibre and people will enjoy it. So, just do what you like and make sure you enjoy it too.

  46. “randomly ambushed by another fish for 3000″

    i c wut u did there.

I have always thought you saved clips overtime, when i made my world pvp videos i basically went out on a weekend and had the whole thing uploaded and on wcm by that monday. The best world pvp comes when your not expecting it, something I’m sure you are familiar with. Do you have clips in your fraps folder from a previous date? Or are you simply going on a world pvp binge? From comparing your video’s (having a wide variety of locations) to a video that uses a couple common areas of world pvp, yours stand out. World pvp is extremely sparse now aside from these events, coming from my honest view point you have a few choices:

    1) World pvp binge and just basically get whatever you can get and settle with a mediocre amount of satisfaction in yourself, (yet still achieve a decently high rating on wcm from most) because lets face it, you’re you…

    2) Make a video solely dedicated to BRM, taking advantage of brewfest, maybe like a tribute… not sure if you still have your old (60) clips that would be nice…

    3) If you do have clips saved up this would be your best bet, world pvp in a constant change of scenery is always* interesting to watch.. However from the looks of it you say: “I’ve gotten enough world pvp”, we don’t want just enough! WE WANT MORE!!!

    4) arena/ duels

Overall if you don’t feel like you have a good amount, i would say choose an alternative and (this is what I’m doing) keep your fraps on from 70-80, everyone will want to see that. That’s just my two sense of the matter, I’m sure whatever you do it will be great, and as for me… i need vegas 7! I have 7.0c on my other computer, i cannot transfer it though because it says i need direct X 9.0, i have 10! Anyone with some knowledge on this issue? Thanks.

  49. I’d like to see more impromptu world pvp: 1 vs world outside kara or bt at 6 pm server on tuesday, IQD doing dailies, etc. The kind of stuff that would be found in a lvl 60 pvp vid, because lvl 70 pvp is entirely built around arena, which is fun to play (sometimes), but not nearly so fun to watch (generally).

And please, do not listen to any of those music suggestions. They’re bad, from bad players. You know what you’re doing much more than they do.

about the music ,, your music is always good ,, i have no idea what those people suggested .. but just do it your style .. maybe you should try more OSTs like what you did in eviscerate 7, it was awesome.
if your going to include arena clips .. i want to see double dps 2v2 and/or triple dps 3v3 .. why ? cuz it more entertaining and requires more skills where there is no place for mistakes
and again ,, DUEL NITION !!!!!

  54. Song suggestions:
    -Disturbed – Decadence
-Hot action cop – Fever for the flava
    -Skate man John – I’m a skateman

    Duel locations :
-The island of Scholomance (Caer Darrow I think it’s called)
    - The floating islands in Nagrand (There is a huge, bumpy one west of Oshu’gun)
-Stranglethorn arena (This is a good spot to find world PvP, 70s come to boost twinks) and STV in general
-The pillars (mesas) of Thousand needles
    -Dire Maul arena

That, and I must thank you, you and your videos got me to spec and stay mutilate and go from keyboard turning to mouse. Much love, can’t wait for the video to come out. Do your best!

  56. Nice to hear you’re working on a new video. I thought in the last Eviscerate that while the narrative was interesting it was ultimatly pointless. People watch your videos to see some awesome rogue play, not to see you defeat the bad guy.

  57. Hey! Akrios would like to see you duel your 2v2 Rogue mate =).
    Some music you may use:
The legion of doom – Hands down ghandi
Killswitch engage – My last serenade
    Mygrain – Darkbound
Linkin Park – Papercut (Oldschool song :) )
Drowning pool – Told you so
Story of the year – Wake up
Story of the year – Tell me
Story of the year – The black swan
Story of the year – Take me back

I atlest think that those songs arnt really overused yet =)..

  60. I’d love to see an instructional vid.
I really only watch rogue vids to learn how to improve my own play and to see what I can aspire to, enjoying the skill in action.

It would be great to have a movie with just the game sounds, no music and the bits where your pulling off important things slowed down with and explanation of what your doing and why against different classes.

I suspect its likely not so much fun to make a instructional vid like I’m suggesting but it certainly would be something I’d love to see done by someone with your level of skill.
