What to Expect on 3.0 Patch Day, Best Achievement and Glyphs, my Predictions and more…

Thursday, September 25th, 2008

With the release of Patch 3.0 right around the corner, those who don’t like to see content until it’s live or simply haven’t gotten around to playing on the PTR, will notice a lot of great new changes/features to choose from. From my few days of playing on the PTR, I thought I’d share the things that need to be gotten "used to" and to also help you understand them as quickly as possible from the minute you load up WoW 3.0. Nobody likes to fall behind from the start! I know some of these aren’t exactly Rogue related so I’ll leave those for last.

POISONS

When you first start, you’re going to notice some of your poisons are marked "Deprecated Item" which are grey and unusable. You’ll also notice there is no longer a usable icon from your spell book. Most poisons are now only one rank and you will be using the same Crippling Poison as when you were level 20. All of the premade poisons are sold where the old poison vendors were and at a cheaper cost – so all of you out there that are scraping together silver for poisons will have a little extra gold for cheap Blood Elf hookers.

DISMANTLEDisarm the enemy, removing all weapons, shield or other equipment carried for 10 sec. 1 Minute Cooldown. 25 Energy.

It’s a great ability which is why the cooldown isn’t shorter. If it was, the disarm would be much shorter duration and would have diminishing returns most likely. I thought originally that this should be a 30 second cooldown, but seeing how game breaking this can be I can now easily understand.  What’s great about this is that it causes no damage AND does not build any combo points for target switches to save your healer from that Warrior/Rogue. It simply disarms them and you can switch back to your target with all your combo points. Eventually, you will see people in arena videos switching to cc’d players and disarming them just before it breaks – adding even more to our crowd control chains. Although personally I would rather see someone disarming during a clutch moment to save someone and being a teamplayer. There is also a great deal you can do with the ability offensively. Either way its a great ability and use it wisely.

CLOAK OF SHADOWS

Don’t forget this has a 1:30 second Cooldown now so be even more selective when using it.

GLYPHS

I have gotten a lot of email’s lately concerning Glyphs. Glyphs themselves are sort of like Aldor/Scryer Shoulder enchants except you must buy them from an Inscriptor.  Whether it’s direct or off of the AH. Glyphs also modify your spells or abilities instead of your gear like enchants do. To apply/change them you must be in certain places in big cities to avoid you not changing them on the fly. You have 3 Major and 3 Minor Glyph slots. The minor ones aren’t very important and don’t really impact the game or you very much, such as increasing the range on your pickpocket by 5 yards. Not saying none are good such as this one Glyph of Vanish (not sure if implemented I haven’t seen it yet) just not as good as Major Glyphs. Definitely gonna have the sprint on water one though for some fun.

You will unlock the ability to use these glyphs at (more…)

Working on Eviscerate 9, SUGGESTIONS WANTED

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Since the beginning of September I’ve started working on another world pvp video. For a while I didn’t think finishing before the expansion would be possible. Trying to get world pvp clips is a lot like fishing, you basically float around the lake hoping for the stars to align.

You could get 3 usable clips in an hour or you could get none for 3 weeks. Even when you do get in that situation and feel like you’re about to catch that perfect clip, you’ll be in the middle of an intense fight and get randomly ambushed by another fish for 3000. (I’ll drop the terrible fishing anology here before it gets any worse)The other thing that comprimises half of the clips is horde running in and helping, despite any disuading /say macros, or you know, sense of personal dignity in pvp.

But all that being said, I’ve gotten enough world pvp clips that I’ll probably be able to finish before WOTLK. The world pvp content is by far the hardest part to collect, after which duels are a lot easier to come by. I really start to understand the lack of world pvp videos because the work involved in comparisson to any other type of pvp video isn’t even similar. It’s an excerise in frustration and patience.

Suggestions and Ideas Appreciated

The other reason I’m making this post other than to whine is to look for some advice.

If you could leave any suggestions for content in a comment here it would be appreciated. I may not use any of the advice but I might use all of it, who knows. I’d love some music suggestions as well, because even if it’s songs i don’t end up using it’s always fun to hear new music.

Just some notes:

- I doubt this video will be as "story driven" as my last one. This isn’t really decided yet but I’m thinking that I’ll somehow concretely tie in to my last video, but i’m really not sure yet

- Dueling. I know this has it’s limitations, especially as mutilate, some top levels players are unbeatable. That being said, any suggestions as to what to do for this would be helpful.

On the same note, if anyone has any interesting dueling locations to suggest that would be appreciated.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Expect the vid about mid October barring the unforeseen.

And So It Begins On Cho’Gall

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

After being on Gurubashi since the game was released, I made the decision 2 days ago to finally xfer off the server I called home for so long. It always had it’s ups and downs like any server but now seemed to be a good time (right before wotlk) to start somewhere fresh. The BR population here is much lower in comparison and there is a LOT more people interested in PVP than on Guru. Oh yea, they speak English also. Much respect to everyone back on Gurubashi, I’ll miss you guys.

Akrios and I are both over here now, as well as numerous close friends that decided to make the move with us. For now our Guild will PvP but might start raiding come WoTLK. Who knows.

I managed to get my hands on a BETA key yesterday also, but between work and moving (again) I have only been able to install the fairly large game file and a couple of patches. I will be adding updates on things that I have noticed over on BETA soon. For those wondering about updates on the site at least from my standpoint, there hasn’t really been anything worth mentioning lately. Except WoTLK November 13th but you already know that.

Hope to meet some of you guys on PTR and should have a BETA update within the next couple of days.
